Reasons to Stick to My Diet Number 10 - I want to trim my middle

Number 10:

As a woman, and just turned 41, the area around my middle is a problem. Always has been if I'm brutally honest, but now it bugs me more than ever!!

So, my reason to continue with this intense plan is that - I want that middle trimmed down and not bulging over the top of my waistbands!!
Its also a reason to do a lot of abs. :)

The best food and drink for a BBQ

Summer has landed, so with than in mind, I thought I would come up with my top choices for entertaining BBQ style this weekend:

  • Chicken Satay
  • Beef Burger
  • Pork Sausages
  • Corn on the Cob
  • Jerk Chicken
  • Spicy Lamb Koftas
  • Vegetable skewers
  • Piri Piri Chicken
  • Mini meatballs
  • Chicken Tikka Steaks
  • BBQ naan breads
  • Raclette cheese grills (any cheese)
  • Fried onions
  • Fried mushrooms
  • Lots of sauces - BBQ, tomato, brown, chilli, mayo, mustard
  • Dips and crisps
  • Loads of baps - you can always freeze them!
So, onto the drink:
  • Pimms o'clock (orange, cucumber, lemonade, strawberries)
  • Vodka mango juice
  • Long Island Iced Tea
  • Chilled bottled beer - Sol or Corona ideally
  • Chilled white wine
  • Chilled rose wine
  • Room temp red wine
  • Whisky or bourbon on the rocks
  • Lots of ice required
  • Gin and tonic
  • Baileys and ice
  • Mojito (lots of mint)
  • Tequila
  • Malibu
  • Lots of mixers - tonic, diet coke, lemonade, fruit juices
Add music, light the BBQ and off you go. Enjoy :)

Its hot - hoorah!

Phewf its been a warm one today! Typically, we were working outside though, and not just lazing about sunning it up. Still - much more pleasant gardening in the mid 20 's than in previous months where frost bite felt like a real possibility!

It always amuses me though, when we get a hot spell here in the UK. Everyone goes summer mad temporarily - you see the legs come out ( ladies) the top come off (men), often not having seen the sun for quite some time. Then you see those same backs, arms and legs sporting a lovely shade of bright red after an afternoon outdoors with no suncream on!

Most of us have done it, but you hope to learn your lesson. Some of us do, some of us don't. Then there is the mad rush for the BBQ stuff. I guarantee this weekend burgers, sausages and baps will run short. People will be buying beer by the crate, and bottles of spirits for cocktails as we speak!

Its like a frenzy comes over everyone - suns out - BBQ on! Nothing wrong with it, just so a sign of the lack of decent weather we endure. One of the joys of Blighty, but I love it.

So it's hot - hoorah! We all think - the we overeat, over drink, stay up too late making the most of the light nights, get burnt and its a huge amount of fun. :)

What I'm Watching this Week

  • Corrie. Not liking the Bethany storyline at all, culminating in her going utterly bonkers at Gary and Sarah through sheer desperation. Hard to watch but brilliantly written and acted. Rosie seems to be getting ever more crazy with her dress sense - pink netting anyone? However, its the Nick / Leanne / Steve triangle that is spinning deeper, with Nick's issues over not being the real father, and his deep seated hatred of Peter driving a wedge between him and, well, everyone pretty much.

  • Salvage Hunters. I am so obsessed with this program. Drew is just so cool. He visited an old factory who manufacture bells, and it was amazing what gems he found, but the one that amazed me was this side table in a big old country house. Its there, just behind the sofa with a phone and mags etc.. on the top of it and Drew spotted it - its worth £100K! Jeez. Fabulous stuff - makes me want to get a van and head off hunting for salvage.

  • Banshee. So we are rewatching from the start and its even better second time around. When you know what's coming, you can concentrate on things you miss the first time around. Its such a well thought through plot, and all the characters both the main leads and the supporting cast are so superb. You are literally transported to a different world for an hour. Fabulous.

  • Game of Thrones. Sean Bean has already been killed off - series 1 - jeez! You really never know in the GoT world who is going to be bumped off next! Fabulous, brutal, gory and highly sexual - amazing program. Looking forward to getting totally up to date - goodness only knows what the future will bring! Loving Daenerys - Queen of Dragons.

Reasons to Stick to My Diet Number 9 - get under that elusive stone mark

Ad break exercise - genius!!

Struggling to find time to fit in your fitness sessions? No time for the gym? Well that is absolutely no excuse!

I set myself a mini goal for each day - 10,000 steps. On days when I do have the time, I go to the gym and I got for walks, especially now spring is here and the nights are getting lighter and warmer.

It's the days when I don't go to the gym, and when I don't get chance to walk that are the issue. How do I get that elusive exercise in with a busy life?

I came up with Ad Break Exercises. Rather than spending ages jogging on the spot, or doing DVD workouts, which are all very well and good, but can get predictable and boring pretty quick, I decided to do short bursts.

Now, depending on the channel you are watching this is easier on some than others. Take ITV as example. Adverts right? Perfect. Every ad break, get your bum off the sofa and do something.

Abs, tricep dips, lunges, squats - whatever you like. Keep it going just for the length of the adverts. Not too much hard work is it? Nope. You can do every break, or just a couple - its really up to you.

However, just increasing your activity in the evenings like this will make such a difference over the course of the week. It could add up to an hour per week if you do 3-4 ad breaks each night. Ad breaks being 2-3 mins long per.

If you really go for it, it could be the difference between gaining and maintaining your weight. Better still, if you do this on your non exercise days plus keep to your healthy eating, you should rev up your metabolism and see some losses on those scales.

If you, like me, have to really push yourself to make you get up and work out, then this could be the one for you. Its short bursts, so you don't need special kit, or equipment. Your own body is all you need. So what are waiting for? :)

Looking for some winter sun - but where is the hottest?

I was thinking earlier about fitting in a late holiday this year - I'm thinking November, even December. We are going to Barcelona in June and its going to be scorchio, the Fuerteventura in August - going to be scorchio!

Different kettle of fish when the weather turns particularly cold and unpleasant here in good old Blighty, so I wanted to go somewhere warm. In previous years, I've been to Egypt and also Tunisia in late December, but in the present climate, I'm not talking heat, I aren't that keen to be honest on either.

I've been to Gran Canaria in early November, but not this late in the year. So I thought I would take a look at the average temperatures to see if that helps to guide us.

So here is my round up of the average temps in November:

  • Lanzarote - 21
  • Gran Canaria - 21
  • Tenerife - 20
  • La Palma - 21
  • Maldives - 27
  • Fuerteventura - 21
  • Mexico - 25

  • Sri Lanka - 27

Work out like the world is watching - give it your all

I read a quote that said dance like noone is watching. Great advice that - just let it go, let your hair down, shake it out.

However, the same does not apply to the gym. My quote - work out like the world is watching - give it your all. What's the difference you may ask?

I shall tell you. Dancing is more energetic when you do not care what you look like, whether you have rhythm or whether you have two left feet.

The gym however, is where just going through the motions kidding yourself that a slow plod will work wonders is not going to get you results. Since having a PT, I now realise that you have to push yourself.

So my advice is this - work out like you have your PT standing over you, and you are showing the world what you are made of. Don't spend your precious hour gossiping with your mate - you can go for a coffee, shopping or drinks to do that.

I'm not saying that a brisk low impact walk is bad for you, but I am saying that you get out what you put in. You've done the hard bit getting to the gym in the first place, so workout like the world is watching once you are there!! Give it your all!! :)

Reasons to Stick to My Diet Number 8 - I want to be cool (not hot)

Number 8 :

When I am overweight in the summer when its warm, it makes me feel even more hot and uncomfortable. I lose weight to go on holiday abroad, and it feels so good being able to wear bikini's, shorts and skirts.

Unfortunately, when I get home to the UK, I gain weight and then when it gets warm here, I am not able to wear my summer clothes. This is ridiculous. So I am changing the pattern this year and I am going to be slim for the summer here for once!!!

I want to be cool, and look cool, not hot and uncomfortable!!!

My Single of the Week - Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

My single of the week is from Imagine Dragons with 'Believer'.

Not strictly speaking a new release, as its been out a few weeks, but I have only just really got to listen to it, and its fabulous. Not least the video - more on that in a moment.

So Imagine Dragons - who are they? Well they are from America -  Vegas no less. They formed in 2008, but having released some EP's it was 2012 when their first studio album debuted. It was the second single from that album that I first heard - that song was 'Radioactive'. The album, Night Visions, was a huge success.

Imagine Dragons are a rock band, but they have a really distinct sound. Not big guitar riffs, or screaming vocals - no, these boys pack power and vocals, but in a more modern, edgy way.

2015 saw the release of their second album, Smoke + Mirrors. Album number 3 - Evolve, from which 'Believer' is the lead single, is out this month.

Its the video that really hooked me - already liking the song, I watched it. I was surprised to see Dolph Lungren he of Rocky fame in it, facing off against lead singer Dan. Dolph is still in great shape, though he has to be knocking on a bit in years, but its Dan whose physique surprised me - apparently he got in shape for this vid - it worked - he looks the real deal.

The lyrics talk about "pain" and the video sees him fighting through it. This is a great song for the gym, or for running to or just to rev you up. Very colourful, and I love the featuring Dolph in it.

All in all, this is a catchy, powerful indie rock song, with a great video, great vocals. More like this and I am definitely wanting more from this band.

If you want more from me, you can find more of my singles of the week, and music stuff over at My Music page here. Go check out this single and my page. Happy listening :)

Reasons to Stick to My Diet Number 7 - Mirror issues

Number 7:

Ok so number 7 is a bit different. This reason is a bit of a phobia I seem to have developed. I have a real issue with facing the mirrors at the gym. When I am working certain exercises, I am supposed to check my technique in the mirror. Not me, no way, never!! I will face the other way, or if I have no choice, I will look anywhere but at that damn mirror!!

So reason number 7 for sticking to my diet is to reach a weight where I am comfortable seeing myself in the mirror when I work out.

Reasons to Stick to my Diet Number 6 - To be Noticed for the right reasons!

Number 6:

Reasons to Stick to My Diet Number 5 - Confidence

Number 5
Number 5 on my list of reasons to stick to my diet is to have more confidence. When I gain weight, I feel self conscious, and horrible, and grumpy.

When I lose some weight, I have more confidence, I feel happier and better. So that's reason number 5!

Reasons to Stick to my Diet Number 4 - Look Good at Work

Number 4
My reason number 4 for sticking to my diet is to look good at work. I am fed up of wearing the same old clothes every day. I want to be able to wear what I want to wear, not just black and grey.

I want to be more stylish, more groomed, more put together. So my fourth reason is to look good at work.

Reasons to Stick to My Diet Number 3 - fit in my clothes

Number 3
Reason number 3 to stick to my diet: To fit into all those lovely clothes in my wardrobe!!

I have many items in my wardrobe that I can't currently wear. Some are mere pounds away from fitting, some I can barely get up to my knees!! Some do fit, but look awful because they fit in all the wrong places!!

It would be lovely to open my wardrobe and just be able to select an item, knowing it will fit me. It would make packing for holiday a pleasure, not a challenge!!

Reason Number 2 to stick to my Diet - I want to be size 10/12

Number 2
#Reason No 2 - I want to be a Size 10/12

My intention to think of a reason every day to stick to my diet.

If I can keep this thought in mind for each whole day, I hope it will be enough to keep me motivated and inspired.

Reason Number 2 is that I have reached a Size 12 once or twice, but never maintained it, and I need to be a bit smaller still. So size 10/12 is the goal.

My Week With Adele Begins

So here we go - my week with Adele begins. But first, lets have a look at where this mega talent came from and how she got to where she is.

Adele's full name is Adele Laurie Blue Adkins. Who knew? When you only need your first name for everyone to know who you are, noone ever learns your surname but there it is. Amazingly, born in 1988, Adele is still very young even though she seems to have been around forever!

Now Adele is English, she is from Tottenham, London. She was always into her music, writing her hit song 'Hometown Glory' when she was just 16. She attended the BRIT school for performing arts. When she graduated, she recorded a couple of demo songs which got heard, and she got her first contract in 2006.

She performed live a number of times, before her debut album was released in 2008 and she immediately hit the charts. Her album 19, her first, hit the number one spot in the album charts. Chasing Pavements was the first song I ever heard from Adele, and it reached number 2 in the singles chart. A superstar was born.

Her second album came out in 2011 - 21. Unsurprisingly, it went to number one in the albums chart. Rolling in the Deep was the first single from the album, and reached number 2 in the UK singles chart, but also started her megastardom in the US. It was her second single from the album that reached number one - the amazing 'Someone Like You'.

In 2012, Adele released the James Bond theme 'Skyfall'. Her third studio album came out in 2015 - 25. It became that year's best selling album, and the lead single 'Hello' hit the number one spot in the UK and in the US.

Sell out tours, and her latest tour continuing well into 2017, culminating in her hometown London in the summer, mean Adele is at the top of her game. Worldwide success, and personal happiness for Adele - marriage and a child, plus charity work, mean she is a 100% success but still keeps it real. When she speaks, she is down to earth. For all her fame and fortune, she is a genuine person and that is what makes us love her all the more.

I shall choose just seven of her tracks for my week with the wonderful Adele - reviewing each, then deciding which of her music thus far is at the top of the list, according to me of course!!

I am looking forward to this - the only problem is choosing just 7! Pop back to find out which make the list. :)

What I am going to eat when I get to goal weight!

When I finally reach my goal weight (whenever that may be in the hopefully not too distant future!) I have a list of things I am going to eat!!

The list starts with a visit to Yo Sushi. Starting with my favourite - Chicken Gyozas:

Followed by some real sushi:

Then I think I will have me a glass of wine:

Then for my next meal its got to be Mexican:

Finally, it will have to be cupcakes:

Today's Reason to Stick to my Diet #1

Number 1
#Reason No 1 - I want to look good in a bikini!!

This is my intention to think of a reason every day to stick to my diet.

If I can keep that thought in mind for each whole day, I hope it will be enough to keep me motivated and inspired.

Marrakesh Selfie!!!

We had such a great holiday. But of course it is obligatory to take the odd selfie. So happy to oblige:

Are you a Kindle or Paperback?

I used to love nothing better than to curl up with a good book, of the paperback variety. I was never into hard backs personally, but a paperback, with a cover you could turn back - wonderful.

Then came the e-reader into my life. I didn't like it at first - I just couldn't get used to it. Then I learned the benefits. For the first time, half the weight of my hand luggage when I went on holiday used to be books. On average, I would get through 3-4 books in a week's holiday. That's  a lot of weight to carry. Plus if I changed my mind and wanted to read something else, more often than not I would end up buying another book at the airport.

So I began to buy ebooks. That first holiday without a paperback felt strange. But then I got to love how much cheaper it was, and how many I could take away with me!! Plus, I never have to part with them and can read them again. Quite often, the old holiday read would be a tatty mess by the time it had been slung in a bag, covered in sand and sun cream and splashed with water!!

No, the kindle had reigned supreme eventually and now, I never look back. I love the freedom, the choice, the longevity of it. I read even more than ever, the only thing that stops me is when the battery dies on me. However, I now have a nifty solution in the form a pebble which can power it up for an extra hour or two. Fabulous.

So are you a kindle person or a paperback?

What I'm Watching This Week

  • Banshee right from the start. It only ran for a couple of series, but its back on boxset so we have gone back for another go. The music it starts with is so dramatic - its packed full of violence, sex and corruption, but by god its brilliant. Helped not least by its very sexy lead, but its shock capacity and also its humour and real love at the heart of it, is compelling viewing. Second time around is actually better. Loving it - again.

  • Game of Thrones. Back to the start - series 1. We watched GoT right up to the new series, then missed a few, then left it so long, we had forgotten where we were up to. So we have started again from the beginning. Its just as brutal second time around, and actually its worse when you know a character isn't going to last long - Sean Bean for one! So shocked the first watch, now just knowing its coming. Eek! Joffrey is still awful, but what a show. Absolutely love it, for all its language, accents, nudity, sex scenes, murder, adultery, abuse and beheadings - horses and people. Not for the faint hearted, but loving it all over again.

  • Prison Break new series. I didn't get into this new series at first. Another prison for Michael, and I wasn't sure I was feeling it. Several episodes in, and its hooked me all over again. I thought it was a bit far fetched that Michael had to break out of yet another prison, but now its all starting to make sense, or rather, it isn't as the plot weaves and gets trickier to work out who the bad guys are. Great stuff.

  • Emmerdale. So Rhona is back without any sign of Pierce. She needs to get that crime reported and tell Paddy so he can't creep his way back in. Emma Barton is doing my nut in at the moment - god bothering preaching everyone in sight, whilst backstabbing and being poison at every turn. The woman is a murderer - she needs to get what is coming - quick! Not happy with those thugs for doing that to Pollard, but what a coward is Dan. Emmerdale is so good at the moment.

  • Billions. One more episode left of season 2. Ax's wife Lara - seriously - he did nothing that bad and she ups and leaves, then comes back and is all weird? Has she not seen the bank balance and that she knew Ax was brutal? Grrr. And as for Chuck - has he really lost his entire fortune to get Axlerod and is ok with that? Surely he can't take him down this time. I hope not - I am loving this program - best in a long time. Series finale to go - omg - nervous already.

Me on my hols #Selfie!! LBD!

I'm not usually into selfies, but last year, I decided to have a go. Partly, it was about capturing the moment, but partly it was to capture the fact that I was a bit slimmer than usual!!

I was just about ready to go out for the evening here in my LBD:

When I go on my holiday, I like to glam up the accessories. You can see the bronze cuff on my wrist, and the matching necklace - Egyptian style. I'm still too big around the hips though. Next time, I will be slimmer, but I did enjoy myself this holiday!

Tiger in Marrakech!! Grr!

I think its fair to say the animal print went to my head a little ! :)

V Festival - 4 times!!

I've been to the V Festival a few times. This evening, I decided to have a look at the line up for the festivals I went to. I thought that I have been to V99, V2000 and V2004.

However, I can recall who headlined (not necessarily when) and on looking back, I remember watching a lot of acts that were only at V2003!! I have actually been 4 times!!

Once I started to think about it, I started to remember different things. Like getting sunburnt the first year I went - V99.

V2000 I got bumped on the head jumping up and down in the crowd. Ouch. V2004 was when someone stole our camp chairs.

V2003, the missing festival, was the one when I lost my tent!! I went for a toilet break in the early hours of the morning. Those lovely chemical loos - yuck. I got all disorientated though, and could not remember where my tent was!! I spent ages tripping over guide ropes hunting for the tent.

I eventually found it. V2004 I took a silver tent so it stood out!! Not sure how I have forgotten that I went 4 times, but now I know, thats just fabulous!!

Book of the Month - Stephen King - Gerald's Game

My book of the month for May is a Stephen King classic - Gerald's game.

Quite an old book this one, published back in 1992. I read it near the time it came out, but decided to revisit it as my memory was that it was good. Crikey is it - not one for the squeamish though. Its one of those that makes your stomach churn at points, and whilst its not action packed as such, the sheer horror of it is mind blowing.

So, it begins with Gerald and wife Jessie heading off to their summer house by the lake. Its well past summer though, and the house and its surroundings are deserted. Not a soul around. Wanting to spice up their sex life, Gerald has bought along a pair of police issue handcuffs and gets to work placing Jessie into them, hooking her up to the bed.

Jessie however, has a sudden change of heart, but at the wrong moment she lashes out and finds herself alone, cuffed to the bed, with Gerald on the floor - dead. As she battles her sanity, and begins to deal with the cramps and pains and thirst, she suddenly realises no one is going to rescue her from her predicament, and that if she is going to live, she has to escape.

Cue a terrifying tale of sheer horror and the ultimate battle for survival. Certainly makes you think!! A book that hasn't aged, Gerald's Game is well worth a read, as relevant today as it was back then.

Highly recommended this one - and the twist that comes in at the end, just when you had put it down to Jessie's overcharged imagination will really unsettle you. Scores a 9 out of 10 this one. Brilliant.

Beans and Jacket Spud - simple but satisfying

When I got home from the gym, I was tired, and very very hungry. First session back was always going to be a challenge, so I knew I wasn't going to be whipping up any kind of culinary creation this evening!

So I scoured the cupboards for something simple but filling and satisfying. I opted for a jacket spud with baked beans. I can honestly say it really hit the spot.

This was a surprise, as for the past weeks and months, I have eaten lots of tasty foods. Favourites of mine, snacks, takeaways, but tonight, it was the perfect simple meal.

Low cal, some carbs because I had worked out, and filling. Obviously it wouldn't do have this every night, but tonight, it was just the job.

Its all about the numbers:

  • I am Size 14
  • I want to be Size 12
  • 26 days to Barcelona
  • 11 weeks to Fuerteventura
  • 28 pounds to lose
  • 223 sleeps until Christmas
  • 250 abs per day
  • 55 squats per day

Today I went for it

Some times, I have those days when I just give it my absolute all. To give you an idea of what I can do when I set my mind to it, this is today's efforts:

  • warm up
  • 2.6km run at gym on treadmill
  • weight session - focusing on chest. 3 sets on 3 pieces of equipment
  • 250 abs
  • cool down stretches
  • home - stripped bedding
  • put new bedding on
  • dishes
  • put clean washing away
    • Tuesday's program of exercise
  • 55 squats
  • 30 push ups
  • 30 triceps
  • 23 kettle bell swings
  • 14 star jumps
  • 11 squat jumps
  • 36 punches
  • 9 burpees
  • 23 box burpees
  • 17 inner thigh pulse
  • 30 butt kicks
  • 9 donkey leg kicks
  • 9 dog leg kicks
  • 28 ski walks
  • 27 second plank
  • 2 plank walks
  • 12 inner thigh raise each leg
  • 12 outer thigh raise each leg
  • 24 bicep curls
  • 11 sumo squats on step boxes with kettle bell
  • 4 kneeling to standing lunge up and down
  • 30 knee ups
Then, I caught up on all the exercises I have skipped over the weekend:

  • 250 abs
  • 1.5 miles walking on treadmill
  • 29 push ups
  • 29 tricep dips
  • 38 kettle bells
  • 17 squat jumps
  • 34 punches
  • 12 burpees
  • 34 box burpees
  • 30 knee ups
  • 16 inner thigh pulse
  • 52 butt kicks
  • 14 donkeys
  • 14 dog legs
  • 48 ski walks
  • 13 star jumps
  • 26 second plank + 2x 25 sec planks
  • 7 plank walks
  • 12 inner thigh raise
  • 12 out thigh raise
  • 22 bicep curl
  • 22 chest press
  • 11 armpit arm raise
  • 11 sumo squats
  • 4 standing / kneeling lunges
  • 95 squats
After all of that, I had a very long hot soak in the bath. Probably going to pay for this tomorrow, but as they say, tomorrow is another day. Today, I feel good, I can tell I have worked, I am feeling that not unpleasant burn. A good day for the bikini body attempt :)

My Rainbow of Motivation - my new tool to help me reach goal weight this time

Red - R is for Realistic

Losing weight, getting fit, eating healthily - all very good, but weight loss goals need to be realistic. I am not going to lose a stone every week. 1-2 pounds is healthy and brilliant. No point expecting unrealistic weight loss, and then being disappointed.

Orange - O is for Organised

Many an attempt has failed due to not being organised. Planning to diet, but not making sure to have the ingredients in the house. Planning to cook something, and not having the cooking dish I needed, or the measuring jug, or the right size bowl. Being organised can be the difference between success and failure.

Yellow - Y is for You

Battling to get the weight off, sometimes its easy to forget why I am doing it. I am doing it for me, first and foremost. Not for someone else, or something else, although those things help keep me motivated, but ultimately, its my body so I am doing it for me.

Green - G is for Goals

It can seem so daunting at the start, at that first weigh in or even before that. When its a couple of stone you are facing down, its easy to panic and think its too much, will take too long etc.. Having an overall goal is great, but unless you only have a small amount to lose, its much better to break your main aim down into little mini goals. First goal could be half a stone, or perhaps to be under the stone mark for a certain occasion, and drop to the next number. By making little goals, and recognising your success in reaching each small goal, it will help get to the big goal in time.

Blue - B is for Body

Now this one really is my nemesis. I focus so much on the number on the scales, that I forget to look at my body and how its changing. So this time, I have taken before photo's at the start - front, back and sides, awful as they look, and I have taken measurements top to bottom. Now, when I inevitably have that week or weeks, when I have exercised, dieted, been so good, and lost no weight or even gained, I have another way of measuring my success - my actual body!

Indigo - I is for Incentive

Sometimes, despite all my will power and effort, I need a little more motivation to keep on track. So I set myself those small goals, and then I give myself an incentive or reward when I get there. It might be a pandora charm for each half stone lost, or a new pair of jeans for getting to a certain weight, or a trip to the beauty salon. However, this is one for caution - I have used food or drink as an incentive previously, and I am not alone in that. At my last slimming group I went to in person, I would often hear people celebrating losing that week, then saying they were off home for fish and chips as a "reward". Is that really a reward for all that effort that went into losing those pounds? I don't think so - my incentives are all about treating my body and mind not  my tum. The last thing I want is more weight - that's no incentive at all.

Violet - V is for Victory

Losing weight is hard, no denying it. It takes focus and it takes time, and it takes effort and commitment, and its not permanent. Losing weight is only one part, keeping it off is another story. I considered this and realised that for every time I battle my demons and win, its a victory. I have won that battle, if not the war. Its one battle at a time that leads to absolute victory. So each time I resist that glass of wine, or that biscuit, or that extra yorkshire pudding, or that cake - whatever it is, its a victory and should be recognised. Every time I go to the gym or get my ass on that treadmill at home, when every part of me is coming up with reasons and excuses not to bother, its a victory. I want to enjoy that feeling of winning each time, and acknowledge each battle I win. I will get there, and I will be victorious.

I have come up with this rainbow myself. I am constantly hopping on and off the diet and fitness wagon, so I decided to find my own self help mantra to motivate me and help me reach goal. I hope it inspires you. Let me know if you found it useful :)

Spicy Veggie Wraps - Tonight's Effort

In my bid to be healthy, I am trying to put some variety into my meals to avoid de-railing or getting bored. Tonight's effort is Spicy Quorn Wraps. Basically, quorn mince with lots of spices, tomatoes, chillies and garlic, fried with chopped onions and peppers, wrapped in low fat tortilla wraps with a dollop of low fat mayo. Yum :)

This week's diet and exercise round up

I started back on Weight Watchers this time last week. What a result - I weighed in and have lost an enormous 11 pounds!! Wow - biggest loss ever.

So, just over 10 pounds goal now to reach 4 weeks from today for my trip to Barcelona. I should smash that hopefully.

Exercise wise - I've done lots of housework and gardening, plus a couple of stints jogging / walking on the treadmill. As well as that, I've abstained from booze quite a few days in the week, and have stayed off anything fattening, sticking to my points every day.

I have done my abs, my squats, my kettle bells - I've worked quite hard, but not really enough. Need to ramp it up on the exercise front. I am doing well eating healthily, I now need to move more to reach my goal.

Good week though, and feeling pleased with my efforts. 4 weeks to go.
