My Single of the Week - The Chainsmokers - Don't Let Me Down ft Daya

My new single of the week is the brilliant 'Don't Let Me Down from The Chainsmokers featuring Daya.

I absolutely adore this song, right from the first note. It kicks in so beautifully leading up to what is, in my opinion, one of the catchiest and powerful dance tunes ever.

This is such a tune - right from its wonderful synth and deep beat, to the searingly hot vocals from Daya.

The Chainsmokers first came to my attention with the single "Selfies". Such a leap from that to this there is just no comparison. They are actually a duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, from America. Daya is also American - her real name Grace Martine Tandon.

This song is pure ingulgence. Synth, guitar and amazing vocals from a 17 year old singer!! It starts quiet, with a catchy and slightly haunting hook to pull you in. This isn't a typical formula dance track though - its more edgy, more atmospheric, and it builds much more appealingly into a crescendo that is very satisfying.

The video is interesting. Featuring the two Chainsmokers boys and Daya, it starts off with Daya looking moody/sultry singing to the duo as they approach in their car. Other girls dance around her, as she sings. As the music builds their car starts to bounce. It continues, until ultimately, they are thrown in the air from the violent bouncing and they stay in the air. Its an interesting video and it suits the song well.

Now, this is a hit of a song, already having reached number 2 in the UK singles chart. I would be amazed if you haven't already heard this, but nevertheless it had to be my choice this week.

If you haven't heard it, go take a listen. This is pure class. If you want more music, checkout My Music page here for loads more singles of the week and music stuff. Happy listening :)

A Look Back at My Week with The Kings of Leon

My Week with The Kings of Leon is at an end. Seven days, seven tracks. In conclusion, I can say that I have learned a little bit more about this band than I knew before, but, in all honesty, not all that much.

They sound great for sure. However, for the most part, their songs lack some meaning - or at least its not apparent or obvious in anyway. They don't make great videos - they are just what it says on the tin. A rock band. They are about the music. That's great because the music is great. Its hard to really feel that you know this band though, and that's a bit of a shame really.

So, to the tracks themselves. Great music, great vocals - seven great songs, all different, but all with that distinctive sound. Now to put them in order of my preference then. Here goes:

In at number one its Molly's Chambers
Number two Radioactive
Number three Sex on Fire
Number four Pyro
Number five Use Somebody
Number six Supersoaker
Number seven Wait for Me

I have enjoyed it, but now for the next choice. Music is great, and I am thoroughly enjoying spending a week with a different band. It gives me the chance to really listen to the music, to try and feel it, understand it, or just enjoy it for what it is. I have uncovered gems I had forgotten about, or some that bypassed me altogether.

Now the difficult part - who to choose next? If you can't wait for that, then check out My Music page. Happy listening and watch this space for who it is going to be next! :)

Today's reason to stick to my diet - to enjoy packing :)

Today's reason to stick to my diet is so that I get to enjoy packing.

Yes, its that time when deciding what to pack becomes a nightmare. Not so much an enjoyable experience when you carry to many extra pounds, you are your own excess baggage!!

It must be lovely to just be able to select items from your wardrobe knowing they fit. I have never experienced this. Each time, I am a slightly different weight, and my body is different. Each time, I have to try ever sodding item on before considering whether to pack it.

So that is today's reason - I want to be able to get out of this cycle and enjoy packing.

A Look Back at My Week with REM

My week with REM is over. I have liked some of their songs in the past, but wouldn't have described myself as a fan really. Although I have seen them live, they were a support act for another band.

So I began my week choosing seven tracks and I can report that I have found one or two tracks I wasn't familiar with and really appreciate how they have influenced the music world. They are an interesting and unique band and its a shame they are no longer together.

Now the fun bit - which of my seven is at the number one spot? Without delay, here is my top 7 REM tracks:

In at number 1: Everybody Hurts
Number 2: The One I Love
Number 3: Losing My Religion
Number 4: Bad Day
Number 5: The Great Beyond
Number 6: Stand
Number 7: It's the End of the World as we Know it

So its Everybody Hurts in the top spot, and I have remembered how much I loved that song. A true classic from a great band. There we have it - the end of the week.

Who will it be next? Not long to wait until I tell you. In the meantime, you can check out more music on My Music page by clicking here. As always, happy listening :)

What I'm Watching this Week

  • James Bond films. So far this week, I have watched Golden Eye, Skyfall, Spectre and Casino Royale. Not sure why really - just feeling the need for some spy action. Daniel Craig is most definitely the best Bond in my humble opinion.

  • Big Brother. Welsh wonder went out in a shock twist, but have you seen that twerking video? OMG hilarious. Jason seems to have turned into some sort of moody sullen sulking child all of a sudden, and its just not the same without Ryan, but still very entertaining, if annoying!

  • Ray Donovan. Gosh this is a program and a half!! Jon Voight is sheer brilliance in this, and as to Ray himself, just charismatic and convincing. Such a tight plot, great characters, great acting - you can't ask any more from this series so far, and am still only on series 1 with 2 more to go!!

  • Grand Designs and a Place in the Sun. I am officially obsessed with property shows. Grand Designs is the stuff of dreams - building from scratch, or totally overhauling. I would love to do that. A Place in the Sun makes me desperate for a bolt hole somewhere sunny.

What's Happening in the World this Week

  • We have a new Prime Minister, for however long it turns out to be, in the shape of Theresa May. Lets see what happens now shall we. Brexit seems to be rumbling on in the speculation stakes. Get a grip now everyone. Its happening, deal with it.

  • The weather here in the UK has finally realised it is summer. 30 degrees + anyone? Now wait for it - "its too hot"

  • A rare Star Wars toy from back in the day has sold for an amazing £26,000. Time for a toy clearout anyone?

  • Last week of school before the long summer holidays. Good news for the kids, but what about us parents? Cue 6 weeks of trying to keep them entertained!!

I had to cheat today. It was either that or give up!

Today has been a cheat day. Despite my best efforts - exercise, diet - the scales have refused to budge this week. So, in order to retain my sanity, I have had a cheat day.

I shall resume tomorrow, undo any damage and make up for today. But today, I had to give in to temptation. I haven't gone crazy at it, but I have had a couple of snacks, some carbs and yes, some ice cream!!

Thoroughly enjoyed it, and so tomorrow, I can pull my belt in again not desperately craving food and feeling faint and hungry.

It had to be done, and I do not feel one bit guilty :)

Word of the Week - Requiescence

Requiescence

Noun:

A state of rest or repose; peace, quiet

At ease, at leisure

Example:

Such bolts clutched promptly overnight, and launched with the early new morning, shall strike agitated Paris if not into requiescence, yet into wholesome astonishment

Gran Canaria - Pale & Interesting for once

Last year, we headed off on holibobs once again. This time to Gran Canaria. Normally, I have a spray tan before I go, but decided this time to go au natural and be pale and interesting.

Here is me on the first night.

As you will see, I didn't actually change colour throughout my week in the sun. Such is life when you have skin that just doesn't tan!!

Saved me £20 on spray tan though!! Glow in the dark moi! :)

11 Reasons to Stick to the Plan!!

Here are 11 reasons for me to stick to my diet:

Number 1
#Reason No 1 - I want to look good in a bikini!!

This is my intention to think of a reason every day to stick to my diet.

If I can keep that thought in mind for each whole day, I hope it will be enough to keep me motivated and inspired. .

Number 2
#Reason No 2 - I want to be a Size 10/12

My intention to think of a reason every day to stick to my diet.

If I can keep this thought in mind for each whole day, I hope it will be enough to keep me motivated and inspired.

Reason Number 2 is that I have reached a Size 12 once or twice, but never maintained it, and I need to be a bit smaller still. So size 10/12 is the goal.

Number 3
Reason number 3 to stick to my diet: To fit into all those lovely clothes in my wardrobe!!

I have many items in my wardrobe that I can't currently wear. Some are mere pounds away from fitting, some I can barely get up to my knees!! Some do fit, but look awful because they fit in all the wrong places!!

It would be lovely to open my wardrobe and just be able to select an item, knowing it will fit me. It would make packing for holiday a pleasure, not a challenge!!

Number 4
My reason number 4 for sticking to my diet is to look good at work. I am fed up of wearing the same old clothes every day. I want to be able to wear what I want to wear, not just black and grey.

I want to be more stylish, more groomed, more put together. So my fourth reason is to look good at work.

Number 5
Number 5 on my list of reasons to stick to my diet is to have more confidence. When I gain weight, I feel self conscious, and horrible, and grumpy.

When I lose some weight, I have more confidence, I feel happier and better. So that's reason number 5!

Number 6:
I want to be noticed for the right reasons!! I am fed up of walking into bars, restaurants, offices and feeling eyes on me - for all the wrong reasons! I want to be the person that gets looks in a good way. So that is my reason number 6!!

Number 7:
Ok so number 7 is a bit different. This reason is a bit of a phobia I seem to have developed. I have a real issue with facing the mirrors at the gym. When I am working certain exercises, I am supposed to check my technique in the mirror. Not me, no way, never!! I will face the other way, or if I have no choice, I will look anywhere but at that damn mirror!!

So reason number 7 for sticking to my diet is to reach a weight where I am comfortable seeing myself in the mirror when I work out.

Number 8 :
When I am overweight in the summer when its warm, it makes me feel even more hot and uncomfortable. I lose weight to go on holiday abroad, and it feels so good being able to wear bikini's, shorts and skirts.

Unfortunately, when I get home to the UK, I gain weight and then when it gets warm here, I am not able to wear my summer clothes. This is ridiculous. So I am changing the pattern this year and I am going to be slim for the summer here for once!!!

I want to be cool, and look cool, not hot and uncomfortable!!!

Number 9:
Today, I want to get under the stone mark. I am sick of almost reaching goal, then never quite getting under that stone mark!!!!

Number 10:
As a woman, and just turned 40, the area around my middle is a problem. Always has been if I'm brutally honest, but now it bugs me more than ever!!

So, my reason to continue with this intense plan is that - I want that middle trimmed down and not bulging over the top of my waistbands!!
Its also a reason to do a lot of abs. :)

Number 11:
I have never been one of those women that throws on a pair of shorts in summer. At a push, I will don a pair on holiday where noone I know is likely to see me but I don't have the pins for shorty shorts.

I would love to have toned pins so that I can - so that's today's motivation :)

Just in case you are more for visuals - here are my related Pinterest boards if you fancy heading over for some inspiration:

Today's reason to stick to the diet - I want to look good at the spa

Today's reason to stick to the diet is that I want to look good at the spa.

Last year, we went to a posh pool party, the year before we went on a spa break. It was luxurious, sumptuous and elegant. It was - I wasn't. I felt really self conscious in my frumpy swimsuit, so I want to go again looking glamourous this time.

So that is today's reason :)

A Look Back at My Week with Coldplay

My Week with Coldplay is over. Its been fun, and a bit bit melancholy, but ultimately a beautiful sounding talented band. For more about this band click here.

So lets get to the fun part - putting the seven song choices in order - so which will be in the number one spot? Without hesitation, lets go:

In at number 1 - Yellow
Number 2 - Trouble
Number 3 -  A Sky Full of Stars
Number 4 - Fix You
Number 5 - Paradise
Number 6 - The Scientist
Number 7 - The Hardest Part

It had to be Yellow in the number one spot. An oldie but a goodie. And that's it - my week with Coldplay is over. What a truly great band.

I shall announce my next week with tomorrow, but if you just can't wait, then check out My Music page here for my previous choices. As always, happy listening :)

Do you fake or bake?

I do not tan. I go a bit pink, I get heat rash, and a few more freckles. Then I peel.

Several years ago, I gave up trying to become bronzed - it clearly just wasn't going to happen.

So I had a few holidays looking pale and interesting. Then a couple of years ago, I decided to fake.

First, I did it at home. It was not a success. It was streaky and unnatural.

So I went to have a spray tan. I felt great. It looked great. It faded, so I took exfoliating gloves and then used a gradual tan lotion. It was not bad.

This year, I am having a spray tan again. Then I have a spray tan to take with me. I will see how it works out this time.

Do you fake it or do you bake?

Today's reason to stick to the diet - I want to look good on camera

Today's reason to stick to the diet is that I want to look good on camera.

The camera never lies so they say, so if that's the case I am in trouble let me tell you!! The shot I just saw of me was hideous. Not what I want to look like at all, and really not flattering.

So that is today's reason - short and sweet.

Sore Today, Strong Tomorrow

I read this somewhere, can't recall where, but hey ho. It made me think about things. Sore today, strong tomorrow. I take that to mean my burning thighs and achy arms. I mean seriously, every muscle is aching so much.

However, taking this in mind, that means that I am sore today (and possibly for several days after today if I'm honest) but I will be strong tomorrow ( or maybe in a few weeks at any rate!).

I think the point is that putting the effort in now will pay dividends in the future. So even when my legs burn and every muscle is on fire, months from now, I will look fabulous, and the pain and effort will be worth it.

It means knuckle down and work at it. I am inspired :)

Todays reason to stick to my diet - I want to go backless!!

Todays reason to stick to my diet is that I want to go backless!!

I was looking at some clothes to buy for my holiday, or for going out and I found some lovely items but they were backless. Likewise, some of the wedding dresses I have been looking for have lovely backless styles.

For me, its not an option. Firstly, there is the issue of requiring support up front which doesn't really suit going sans bra, and then there is the issue of my actual back!! I don't currently have a lovely toned back, although I am working on that.

So, todays reason to stick to my diet is that I want my back to be fit for backless!!

Today's reason to stick to the diet and exercise - I go on holiday soon!!

Yep, today's reason is simple. It is not at all long now until my holiday. I am just weeks away now, and I have to make each day count!!

Tonight, I could easily have given in. The last thing in the world I wanted for my tea tonight was the 3 day diet measly portions. But I have done it. Why? Because I want to be the best I can be when I get on that plane.

Ok, so miracles don't happen, but I can at least be unbloated and more streamlined that if I pig out at this point!!

Things you should never say to your Personal Trainer

I am learning the hard way, that honesty really is not the best policy when it comes to Personal Training. Of course, the whole point is to work hard, lose weight and get fit - right? That said, if you want to be pushed to your limit, be as honest as you like. If however you know your comfort zone and want to progress at a steady pace, then keep it zipped!

These are the phrases that I have uttered, unintentionally, and have been pushed to my max as a result. When I say to my max, I mean looking like I have been caught in a rain storm, spent too long on a hot beach, and generally having the appearance of someone who has had a few - dripping with sweat, blood red and wonky legged!! It really is not dignified!! You see if you say it's not too hard, it gets harder. If you are asked how you felt after your session and you say ok, it gets harder. If you are asked how that weight feels and you say ok, it gets heavier. You get the drift.

So, if you want to work hard, by all means use the following - but be warned!!

Example 1:
Me: I didn't find that too bad today for once
PT interpretation: Heavier weights, higher level, less recovery time needed!

Example 2:
Me: my legs feel like bambi
PT interpretation: she needs to run really fast now!

Example 3:
Me: I'm squatting a bit lower aren't I  - that's progress
PT interpretation: she needs to squat holding a big heavy belgian bag!

Example 4:
Me: My heart is absolutely pounding
PT interpretation: excellent, let's keep it at that level!

Example 5:
Me: Have you just put the level up?
PT interpretation: she is finding this too easy if she can't tell!

Example 6:
Me: last set - hooray!
PT interpretation: right, one more set then!

Example 7:
Me: why can't I balance properly?
PT interpretation: she needs to do single leg pistol squats!

Example 8:
Me: god I hate jumping about
PT interpretation: she must jump, jump and jump some more!

Example 9:
Me: my arms are burning already!
PT interpretation: but not enough, feel that burn!

Example 10:
Me: Ooh I love this song
PT interpretation: go faster, keep up with it, don't stop!

A Look Back at My Week With Calvin Harris

My Week with Calvin Harris is at an end. I've chosen my seven tracks, reviewed each one and its been fun. I've learned some things I didn't know, and have really listening to my choices. I feel I know Calvin just a little better now.

All that remains to be done, is to choose which of my seven is my favourite. So without further ado, here is my seven in order of my ranking. Which will be top?

In at number 1 : Summer
Number 2: Sweet Nothing
Number 3: Feel So Close
Number 4: Bounce
Number 5: Drinking from the Bottle
Number 6: Acceptable in the 80's
Number 7: You Used to Hold Me

So the number one spot has been taken by 'Summer', even though its winter. Now my next job is to pick who to spend the next week with!!

I've really enjoyed my week with Calvin, I hope you have too. You can find more artists over at My Music page by clicking here. I shall be back soon to announce who will be next. Happy listening :)

Who says Lego is for kids??

It all began with a pile of bricks and a manual.

This particular lego set had already been built once, but as you can see, had suffered some demolition!

The first thing to be done was to get organised.

I started from scratch, then realised finding the bits was a problem.

There was nothing else for it - I had to sort the bits into colours and really break it apart again.

Now I could start to build it again.

And here is is beginning to take shape again.

This is lego city police station.

And ta da - here it is - finito!!

Today's reason to stick to my diet - I want to be free to have a pint!!

Today was a lovely sunny day, and it killed me not being able to just go to the pub, sit in the beer garden and have a cold pint of lager. I used to do it a lot, but then I realised I was overweight and wanted to not be, so I stopped doing it to lose the weight.

The problem is that I spend most of damn summer trying to lose weight and I never get to have that pint!! So I want to stick to my diet, get to goal weight, and stay there.

Then I can have my pint in the sun!!

Holiday preps underway now :)

So, the holiday preparations have begun in earnest. I am once again on the 3 day diet. I shall get 2 more in, plus finishing this one which should see me come in at a good loss on the scales. Couple that with lots of exercise and PT and things should be less wobbly!! 10 days to go, but I can make a big difference even still.

I have been using body treatments now - cellulite treatment to get my legs as toned as possible. Beauty bust treatment for my decolletage!! (keeps the skin supple). I do this daily after my shower or bath, and it is working.

I am booked in for the following:
  • Acrylic nails
  • False eyelashes
  • Chin wax
  • Lip wax
  • Leg wax
  • Bikini wax
  • Facial
  • Body scrub
I need to book my roots and a fringe trim, and also my feet in for a pedi too.

I am drinking lots of water to flush my system out, and am doing lots of abs. I have begun to list the packing requirements, and bought my toiletries and sun cream, so not much more to do on that front.

Suitcases are coming down on Monday, so then its all systems go!!

A Look Back at My Week With The Arctic Monkeys

So its all over. My week with the Arctic Monkeys is finished. Its been great. All that remains now is to decide which of my seven song choices is the number one. So here is my final ranking:

At number 1 its: One For The Road
Number 2: Snap Out of It
Number 3: Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High
Number 4: Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair
Number 5: Fluorescent Adolescent
Number 6: Arabella
Number 7: I Bet That You Look Good on the Dance Floor

There we have it. the week is over. Hope you've enjoyed it. I have. Catch you later. Happy listening :)

I am inspired :)

I just read an article that has inspired me. The gist was that whatever you do, I'm talking exercise wise, it is better than doing nothing.

Now ok, you won't be a marathon runner or an Olympic athlete by just walking a lap of the park, but here is the great bit that has inspired me: no matter how slow you go, you are still faster than those still sat on the sofa!!

I think that's epic. I mean, I am not a fast runner. At the moment, I'm not moving that much feeling as crappy as I do, but I am determined to move a little at least. That way, at least I overtake the couch potatoes.

From small acorns to big oak trees - I'm at little acorn stage, but the world beckons :)

My top tips for getting slimmer :)

How to get slim!
  • Jogging - outdoors, no cost involved, and no excuses apart from the monsoon rain!!
  • Gym - lots of cardio, fat burning - stepper, stair master, cross trainer
  • Running - gym treadmill - intervals - hills and sprints
  • Ab work - can't see them at the moment, but they need to be ready for their moment!!
  • Green Tea - can't stand it, but I will literally try anything right now!!
  • Fat metabolisers - yep. Cheat it - science like
  • Water - drink lots of the wet stuff. Its supposed to help!!
  • Grapefruit - apparently it helps burn fat. Likewise celery
  • Exercise first thing before eating anything - negative calories burned!
  • Do squats. Every day.
  • Weights - arms, chest and back will benefit, plus burns calories
  • Low carb - keep it low.
  • High protein - focus on the proteins.
  • Move more - walk everywhere rather than drive
  • Smaller portions - cut portions down by a third
  • cut out snacks - apart from fruit
  • 5 a day - make sure to stock up on the fruit and veg
  • 3 Day Diet - 3 days on, 2 days off. Ongoing
  • Swimming - whenever I get the chance - home or away

  • Weight watchers - yes, I know. But it works for me!!
  • Cut down / cut out the alcohol. How many calories does that glass of wine contain!!
  • Choose healthy options, and no starters or desserts

What I'm Watching this Week

  • Ray Donovan. We have stumbled upon this great drama starring Liev Schreiber. He stars as Ray, who is a bit of an Equaliser come fixer type of character, but with more drinking and sex!! Some seriously dark storylines in this, but the cast is great. His dad is played by the great Jon Voight, and his boss and friend Ezra is played by the brilliant Elliot Gould. This is absolutely great TV and half way through series 1, I am hooked.

  • Corrie. OMG for a moment there, I thought Sarah was going to spill the beans over what really happened to Callum!! Phewf. But then I read that Kylie Platt is going to be going out of Corrie by dying no less!! Flipping eck!! Just when you think its all going to be ok!! Good stuff from the cobbles this week.

  • The Euros. Sad for Wales as they lost to Portugal. I really believed they had a fighting chance, but luck just didn't turn for them. They have nothing to be ashamed of though, unlike England's fiasco. They can come home with heads held high and proud. I didn't want Portugal to win, but in the end, I felt a bit sorry for Ronaldo, so glad they did!!

Coming up on The Eternal Hopeful

Here's whats in store for the coming week:

  • New single of the week
  • Continuing word of the week
  • Diet ups and downs
  • Holiday preps
  • A new My week with music artist
  • What I'm watching this week
  • What's happening in the world
  • Travels
  • Learning Spanish
  • Food glorious food - top 10's
  • Goals, life and plans
  • Things to do
Plus competitions, more fun and just life in general :)

A Look Back at My Week With The Killers

My week with The Killers is over. Its been 7 days (actually a bit longer on account of the holiday in the middle) but 7 days and 7 songs.

I've reminded myself how great their old stuff is, and have also realised that I actually think their new stuff is great too, so its rekindled my love of this band.

All that remains to be done now is to decide which of my 7 songs is at number 1 so here are my 7 choices in order of my preference:

Number 1: Mr Brightside
Number 2: Smile Like You Mean It
Number 3: Runaways
Number 4: Human
Number 5: Read my Mind
Number 6: Somebody Told Me
Number 7: Spaceman

So there we have it - in at number 1 is the fabulous Mr Brightside. My week with The Killers is now all over.

Now to decide who is next? If you can't wait, you can see all my previous choices here.

Wowee - I went for it today :)

Well folks, I raised the bar today. Literally and physically. I jumped, I skipped, I Zumba'd, and I danced.

I did abs, I squatted, I did push ups and triceps, I did weights, I did inner thigh exercises. I did kettle bell swings, I did arm raises, leg raises and step ups.

I wore a bin bag!! I sweated, I squeezed, I burned and I worked it hard.

Tomorrow, is the beginning of another 3 day diet, and I also have a PT session. I am going for it now big time!!

Come on weigh in!! :)

Today's reason to stick to the diet - lying on the sofa won't make me bikini ready

Today's reason to stick to the diet - lying on the sofa won't make me bikini ready!! And yet I am having one of those days when that is all I want to do.

I just want to put my head in those cushions, lay back, still a film on and be done with it. But I can't. Well, I could, but then there would be no point when I am looking back on holiday in beating myself up and feeling fat. If I choose that option, I deserve to look crap on the beach.

So, today's reason is that lying on the sofa will not make me bikini ready. So that has to be a start to get me up and active today and stay away from the chocolates!! :)
