Light up your life :)

There is nothing better than lighting up your life with beautiful lighting for your home. My last trip to choice a new gorgeous light fitting my lounge left me with these choices.

There was just so much to choose from. In the end I chose number three, but ended up buying number 5 as well for another room!! So beautiful. I love glamourous lighting.

New Single of the Week - Catfish & the Bottlemen - Soundcheck

My single of the week this week is the brilliant 'Soundcheck' from Catfish & The Bottlemen.

Catfish and the Bottlemen are an English indie group, with a bit of Welsh for good measure. They consist of Ryan Evan "Van" McCann, Johnny "Bondy" Bond, Benjamin "Benji" Blakeway and Robert "Bob" Hall.

I haven't really heard anything from them before this - but this track really appealed to me on first listen. Its a bit indie, very catchy, and has quite a strong soft rock feel to it too - lots of guitar.

Their debut album, 'The Balcony' was released in 2014. It reached number 10 in the UK albums chart. They also released a number of singles which did ok, but didn't hit the top 40 in the UK singles charts. They were one of those acts though that had a certain street cred on the UK scene.

They are due to release their second album this year, following a lot of appearances at various festivals, not to mention winning a Brit award for being best breakthrough act. Not bad.

I love the main lyrics to this - "I wanted everything at once, until you blew me out my mind, now I don't need nothing". This is a love song folks. I love this line. The snarly vocals just make it more meaningful somehow.

All in all, this is a powerful track. Its not flimsy ethereal - no this is rock, this is indie, and this is powerful stuff. Go take a listen and let me know what you think of it.

You can find all my previous singles of the week over at My Music page - just click here. Happy listening :)

33 Days to Go

Well its all gone a bit wrong on the diet front. Birthdays, engagements, celebrations and Easter = feeling fat.

So I have 33 days to turn it around. I am going to plan how this is going to happen, or I shall be miserable on holiday and that cannot happen :(

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity  post. Lots to say today on this subject!! Starting with the fact that it is a week today since my birthday, and what a whirlwind of a week!! I turned 40, after a wonderful weekend, had a wonderful day.

It didn't stop there - this weekend, it started over with family, more presents, more meals, and a proposal!! So still feeling very positive about all of that.

Then, last night, we had a take away - my favourite - Chinese. It came very late - some 2 hours to arrive!! It should have cost £26.10 but I rang to find out where on earth it had got to, and understandably, asked the question - where is our food?

To my surprise, they knocked the bill down to just £8!! Granted, it was 2 hours late, but even so - that wouldn't have even paid for one person never mind 3!! So that was good.

Today, I stripped the bed and put on the freshly purchased new bedding. I love new bedding!! So that was very lovely and it looks beautiful.

All in all, its very positive at the moment. At least at home it is! :)

Going for it now!

This is what I am doing to get the weight off before my holiday. Today, I weigh 13 stone 3 pounds. I want to weigh a minimum of  11 stone 12lbs by the time I go! That means I have 1 stone 5lb to lose.

This is what I am doing to try and accomplish it:

  • Boo Tea - 28 days morning and evening
  • Personal Training Sessions twice a week
  • 30 day squat plan - up to 60 per day now
  • Abs and exercises every morning
  • Extra steps per day
  • 3 day diet every week - 3 days on 4 days off
  • At least 1 more gym session per week
  • Housework - keeping the house pristine
If this doesn't work I don't know what will!

Sunday morning = breakfast torture

I am on a diet. I believe I may have mentioned this a time or two. This morning, the boys are down and little G so its bacon, sausages and full English all around. Except for me that is!

I'm on the Boo Oats again. Boo Tea's new breakfast oats that you add water to and have a bowl of creamy oats. They are quite nice to be fair, and very tasty but the smell all around me is divine and its really really hard.

I am having a cup of Day time Boo Tea and my bowl of oats and trying not to be tempted. It helps somewhat that this morning, inexplicably, I have bloated up.

I am eating a healthy eating plan, consisting of similar meals each day. Oats for breaky, sandwich for dinner, salad and soup at night. Its been going great, then this morning - bang - half a pound gained and feeling sluggish.

Today I need to drink a lot of water and flush myself out as I am desperate to get under that stone mark. I have to. I have 3 weeks and 2 days left now - I can't afford any blips at all.

With this in mind, it is making those smells of bacon easier to resist. If I give in today, its all over this close to hols. I am a lean mean fat burning machine. Well, I will be if I persevere.

Will power is such a tricky thing. You think you've got it in hand, in the bag then it just fades and disappears on me.

Not this time!! PT Tuesday, possibly gym later - see how we go. But 5 sessions is the plan for this week.

This time next week, I shall be a few pounds clear and under that stone mark you just wait!

Happy Easter - Sheep Cupcakes!!

It is Easter which means several things - cakes and chocolates mainly!!

So here is a little sheep cupcake to make you smile:

He is so cute. Made by one of my friends, who is an absolute cake genius!! Here is more of her work:

Sheep Cupcakes - perfect for Easter

My mate is an expert at cupcakes. This is her easter effort - a cute sheep!! I just feel hard done by because at present I can't eat one!! Just have to content myself with staring at them instead. Aren't they lovely?

She assures me they are very simple to make - I could probably manage the marshmallow bit, but culinary skills are not my strong point. Hopefully it will inspire your easter attempts though! :)

Minion Cake!

My other half turned 50 last year. I decided to get him a really age appropriate and mature birthday cake:

Happy Easter - Say it with Cupcakes!

So it is Easter Sunday. A very Happy Easter to you.

Now as it's Easter, and as I have a slight obsession with cupcakes, and as I just keep finding new temptation I thought I would share it with you. This site is fab - Your cup of Cake. There's a website and a facebook page full of cake stuff.

I absolutely love these cupcakes with Cloud Frosting - I've popped the link below for those ones:

http://www.yourcupofcake.com/2014/03/cloud-cupcakes.html

But these are ace too - carrot Easter cupcakes!! My intention is to make some of these once I hit goal weight - not to mention other things I intend to indulge in!! Mainly of the chocolate / cake variety!!

Just thought I would share these though, as this site is fab and clearly a fellow lover of all things cake. Enjoy:)

What I'm Watching this Week

  • Game of Thrones. Just stating series 2 now, and my gosh it hasn't tamed it at all!! Sean Bean's character is already headless, which was a shock!! The head count in this grows each episode! Its absolutely brilliant. My favourite character has to be Tyrion Lannister. Just so witty, and funny. Great stuff

  • Spectre. Yes, we watched the new and fabulous James Bond flick this week. It was a bit spy like for Bond even. More Spooks than usual, a bit of a cross between London has fallen and the Bourne films, and a little Mission Impossible. Daniel Craig is special though. Best Bond ever. I thought I would miss M, but Fiennes is just as good. The plot in this one, is just intense. Absolutely loved it. Best ever.

  • A Place in the Sun / Grand Designs. My obsession continues. To the point now, where I have actually, tentatively, started to look at what we can do with our own home, and also, what is available to buy abroad. Its not something we can realistically do right now, but its good to have a plan, and these programs inspire me!!

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. First up - its the weekend!!!! That means its Easter! Yay!! I may be older, but that doesn't mean that I am too old for chocolate!!!

This weekend we are out for a curry, I am having my hair cut, and its going to be fun.

Today, we had out CCTV installed which is fab!! Normally, my mum keeps an eye on my house when we go away. But this year, they are away with us and I was worried. Now, we are secure- or as secure as you can be at any rate. Burglar alarm, UPVC locks and CCTV. There must be easier targets than us now, surely!! never say never, but it feels safe.

I've had a very productive day today. Got a few things done that I've been putting off, but were bugging me, so that's positive.

So another good day :)

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. Its a long weekend coming, so that's positive. No work for 4 whole days. Superb!!

I have attempted to get back on my diet today. That's a step in the right direction. I have avoided the cake, which is positive!!

I have turned 40, and life hasn't ended. I don't feel any different, no older. So that's positive as I was absolutely dreading it.

Silly things have happened today, but its made me realise that I am more resilient that I thought. Also today, I got my finances in order, and did a big online shop ready for the long weekend.

We have all the family coming down this weekend, so its going to be busy. I'm booked in to have my hair sorted too, so its all good. :)

Word of the Week - Pulchritudinous

Pulchritudinous

Adjective

Having great physical beauty.

Physically beautiful, comely.

The definition of pulchritudinous is a way to describe great physical beauty.

A person who is very beautiful would be described aspulchritudinous.

Tea and Cake :)

I am not ordinarily a cake eater (cupcakes aside). Usually, I am more the savoury type. However, I defy anyone to resist this:

On this cake tier we had a choice of the most gorgeous looking carrot cake, and some Eccles Cake.

Here we have tea in a proper teapot, and a pot of gorgeous sugar cubes. Then there are the gorgeous little jars of yummy strawberry jam and clotted cream. Which are the perfect accompaniment to these:

Lots and lots of different types of scones! Plain ones, currant ones and cherry ones! Oh what to choose. I opted for if in doubt, try one of each. Well, sometimes the crime is worth it!! Yum!! :)

Struggling with Motivation

Willpower = 0. Motivation = 0. I just simply cannot be arsed at the moment!! I want to be slim, I don't want to go on holiday overweight, but I seem to be stuck in a perpetual loop of "I will start tomorrow".

Take tonight as an example. I had to really fight the urge to call the shop on my way home from work as I wanted to buy cake, or chocolate or something. The plan would have been to secretly indulge in said purchase. I didn't give in, but I did end up eating bread the second I walked in the house!! Not good, but not cake!!

I just can't seem to get myself under control at the moment. Probably doesn't help that I'm proper stressed eric at the minute, but even so. I am going to be really fed up on holiday if I don't get a handle on this and soon.

Its 6 weeks until my holiday and I somehow need to get myself on track. I just don't know whats up with me. Got to crack on from tomorrow. I have to.

Anyone got any tips as to how to get your head on right?

Revised Wishlist - I have had quite a few for my birthday :)

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post.

Today, I will keep it simple. I turned 40 today. I was initially daunted by the prospect, but today has been amazing. From start to finish.

End of :) x

Feeling good at the big 4-0!

What a birthday! Starting off with family phone calls and visits from friends and family. Lots of presents, loads of cards.

I've been spoiled rotten, and by so many people. Feeling very loved indeed. Everything from Pandora charms, scented candles, Swarovski, champagne, photo frames, ornaments, jewellery box, a big cake!! Hotel stay, white water rafting, biker boots, yankee candles, lulu guiness bag, jewellery, gift cards, a watch, wine - wow!!!

And this isn't even the end of it - more still to come!! We've been out for one birthday meal, two more are booked. With more family, and different friends. I am one lucky lady :)

Things to do before 40!! - I am 40!!!

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. First up, its my last day ever of my 30's. Tomorrow, at 7am thereabouts, I turn 40 years old.

Its been a nice day. Sunny, lovely and beautiful. We've been for a walk out in the great outdoors, climbed a felled tree - lovely. Very positive.

Its my birthday tomorrow, and me and the other half are both off work. That means a whole day together, just us. Except everyone that wants to come round and see me, including one of my best mates who can only come early morning!! Nice to be loved though :)

Yesterday, we went out for  a 7 course meal at one of the best restaurants in our area. It was absolutely amazing - more on that to follow!!

I feel loved, and happy - so thats very positive indeed. :)

New Retro Single of the Week - Everybody Hurts - REM

My retro single of the week for this week is from REM with the wonderful 'Everybody Hurts'.

Everybody Hurts was released as a single in 1993, and was taken from their 1992 album, Automatic for the People. This was one of their biggest successes, and peaked at number 7 in the UK charts.

Let me say this - this is one of my all time favourite ever songs. Its a beautiful gorgeous sounding ballad without being a ballad if you follow. Its slow tempo, with emotional sounding vocals from Stipe and his unusual voice.

The video this song is also brilliant. Its a traffic jam on a main road in the USA. Captions pop up on the screen depicting what the occupants of various vehicles are thinking. Its very clever. The lyrics give it a real thought provoking backdrop. Everybody hurts he sings over and over, which is true.

Eventually, the occupants of the cars get out and just walk on, leaving the jam behind them. Michael Stipe and the band members are amongst them. Michael then starts to sing. Its brilliant. It ends with a news report of over 300 people just walking away from their cars.

This is a song that makes you think. Its quite dark, and very powerful. Its wonderfully sung, wonderfully orchestrated with strings and guitars. It doesn't sound dated even now.

Go take a listen of this one. If you somehow haven't heard it before, you will love it. If you just haven't heard it for a while go remind yourself how great a song this is. Drop me a comment if you like it.

Holiday reads - Marrakech 2015

My Marrakech reads last year were:
  • Broken Dolls - James Carol
  • Dust - Patricia Cornwell
  • Stephen King - Mile 81
Once again, a Stephen King on the list - great book. Plus one of my other favourites featuring Dr Scarpetta from Patricia Cornwell.

Then is was another author I've not read before - James Carol. Another pretty gruesome crime novel - very gripping and intense.

Thoroughly enjoyed all three - result!
