Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. Today has been a long and tiring day, but a productive one, much like yesterday.

First up, we had the other half's eldest down for the weekend. Him, his girlfriend, their 2 dogs and their 2 year old daughter. So that's been fun, if a little bit of a house full!! We have had a laugh though, so that's been lovely.

Once they had gone home, I decided to start sorting out. First of all, the kitchen food cupboards copped for it. Its amazingly therapeutic when you do that. Clearing out stuff that's past its sell by date, or half empty packets. Everything organised. Fab. Good feeling.

Then it was the cupboards in our bedroom, and clearing out the clutter from under the sofa bed. I cannot believe that we have only lived here for 15 months, and yet I have accumulated so much stuff again!! Well not anymore! I literally cleared out 2 big bags full of stuff to be binned, plus loads more to sell that I don't want or haven't used. Its a good feeling when its done but it was a job and a half let me tell you!!

We've then hoovered and dusted, and straightened everywhere up, washed the bedding, done all the dishes - everywhere is sparkling. I love it when its like that.

So although I've not been anywhere, and I've been doing end of month comps for quite a while, I feel like a lot has been done. It feels good, it feels positive. :)

Playlist for a soggy day :)

Ok then, it's Saturday, and its grey and soggy out there folks. I'm in the Midlands area myself, and its gloomy and wet. So lets cheer ourselves up then. Lets think of songs for a soggy, rainy day.

Here are the first 10 I can think of to begin with, feel free to comment with any you think of!

  • Rihanna with her Umbrella
  • The band "Wet, Wet, Wet"
  • Prince with Purple Rain
  • Gene Kelly - Singin in the Rain
  • Zoe - Sunshine on a Rainy Day
  • Phil Collins - I wish it would Rain Down
  • Eurythmics - Here Comes the Rain Again
  • Its Raining Men by the Weather Girls
  • Carpenters - Rainy Days and Mondays
  • Travis - Why Does it Always Rain on Me?
Given the amount of rain we get here in the UK, is it any wonder that we get a bit fed up of it? So lets cheer ourselves up and think of as many rainy songs as we can. Lets will the sunshine to come shining through shall we? Lets soak up (sorry, couldn't help myself) this dismal weather and get our happy faces on!!

I bet there are loads and loads of rainy songs, because as we all know only to well, we are a country obsessed with the weather. You don't stand in a shop in Spain for instance, and hear every one referencing the fact that its sunny again now do you? No. I think its a British thing, based around the fact that our weather is so inconsistent.

Anyway, enough of the talking about the weather, lets focus on the music! Let me know your rainy songs by commenting. I love comments - they make me happy, in spite of the weather!! :)

Top 10 Songs for a Windy Day

  • She's Like the Wind- Patrick Swayze
  • Candle in the Wind - Elton John
  • Wild is the Wind - Nina Simone
  • Winds of Change - Scorpions
  • Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler
  • Butterflies and Hurricanes - Muse
  • Tsunami - Manic Street Preachers
  • Electrical Storm - U2
  • Hurricane - 30 seconds to Mars
  • Thunderstruck - ACDC

My Week with The Kaiser Chiefs begins - looking back in readiness for the gig in July!!

I have chosen to spend my next week with The Kaiser Chiefs. But before we begin, lets get to know more about them.

First off they come from Leeds. They are a homegrown UK band best described as a bit indie a bit rock, and in my humble opinion, a lot great!!

Here is why I love finding out more about the background of bands and artists - I always find out some interesting details I never knew or had forgotten about. The Kaiser Chiefs formed in 2000, but they weren't originally known by that name. They called themselves Parva.

In 2003, after releasing one album as Parva, they reformed and renamed to The Kaiser Chiefs. A very wise move! The original line up was Ricky Wilson on lead vocals, Andrew White on bass, Nick Baines on keyboard and Nick Hodgson on drums. Of the original 4 only the drummer has changed, now being Vijay Mistry.

They released their first album as The Kaiser Chiefs in 2005. 'Employment' was a massive hit and established them on the indie rock scene in a big way. It reached number 2 in the UK album charts. It was nominated for a whole host of music industry accolades. It spawned the hit singles 'Oh My God', 'I Predict a Riot', 'Everyday I love you less and less' and 'Modern Way'.

Their second album, 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob' was released in 2007. It reached number 1 in the UK albums chart. The lead single 'Ruby' was followed by 'Everything is average Nowadays' and 'The Angry Mob'. More rock inspired as an album, once again, the singles were hits and The Kaisers were no longer the new boys in town.

'Off With Their Heads' was their third album and was released in 2008. This one reached number 2 in the UK album chart. The first single to be released was 'Never Miss A Beat', followed by 'Good Days, Bad Days'.

The band then took a 2 year hiatus before coming back with album number 4 in 2011. 'The Future is Medieval' reached number 10 in the UK album chart. 'Little Shocks' the first single from the album was the biggest hit taken from this 4th album.

In 2012, they released their first compilation album 'Souvenir'. In 2014 they released album number 5 'Education, Education, Education and War. This was the first album without original drummer Hodgson, who left and was replaced by Mistry. Once again they hit the top spot in the UK album chart. 'Bows and Arrows'  was the lead single, following by 'Coming Home'.

Throughout their time, they have toured, done Festivals, supported other bands such as U2 and been continuously recognized by the music industry for their work. Many times Platinum, appearing on talk shows and performing live has become their staple. They are great live. I can vouch for that.

Ricky Wilson, the front man, is one of the judges on TV program "The Voice". What I didn't know is that behind his quirky style and great voice, is a man who has an Honours Degree in Graphic Art and Design and who was previously a teacher.

The Kaisers are bold, they are fearless, they are talented and they are unique. I am looking forward to my week with this great British band. Day 1 coming soon - make sure you check back or you can catch more of My Music over at My Music page - just click here. :)

Today is going to be busy busy busy!!

Yesterday went a little bit off track on the diet front. I weighed myself in the morning, and it had gone up. I had tried so bloody hard all week, had nothing I shouldn't, been to the gym 3 times including personal training, and yet I gained a pound in weight. Humpf.

So I decided buggar it, and had exactly what I wanted to eat as a result. That being Spag Bol. Yum!! Today, by way of making it up, its going to be busy busy busy!!

I got up, and before even making breakfast, I decided to clear out the food cupboards in the kitchen. Its amazing when you do that how much you end up throwing away. Stuff that's got pushed to the back of the cupboards, empty packets etc... So now its organised and decluttered.

Next was breakfast, and now its month end comps. Last day of the month. I also need to get the house cleaned again after we've had family over the weekend. Two dogs and a two year old leave their marks!!

I want to get to the gym or do some exercise too today. I'm contemplating getting the Zumba out on the wii later, and possibly doing some abs, plus I need to start the beach body again today.

At some point, I also want to sort the fitted cupboards in our room, before the bedding goes away again. Said bedding also needs a wash, so that will be done today too. Phewf!! :)

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. Its Saturday, so that in itself is always a positive. Today started well - my dad came round to fix the bathroom tap.

Last October, the shower decided to konk out, water spilling all over the place and wouldn't stop. The other half bought a new one, but when it was fitted, the water pressure was ridiculously low and as a result, having a shower has been a feeble affair. More a trickle than a flood!

Cue the other half purchasing a different type of mixer tap, for the right pressure this time. Now, we have a lovely powerful shower again!! Yay!!

Then I headed off to get my hair cut and coloured. So I enjoyed a couple of hours of me time whilst being pampered. I did a little bit of shopping, then headed home with lovely hair!!

Tonight, we have all played Monopoly. This is becoming quite the routine of a weekend evening of late. Tonight alas, I did not win. Having said that, the two remaining players of the 5 of us are still going as I speak. It was good fun though  :)

So there is today's positivity post. It's been a good day :)

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. First up is the fact that I have been to the gym again. Three times this week - get in!!

I'm not sure I will have actually lost pounds this week, but I certainly am starting to feel healthier and less bloated. I have also stuck to my diet, and as a result, have a few daily points left for a couple of drinks this evening. Very positive.

Another positive today was the fact that I had a day off work!! Enough said on that. Everyone loves a day off.

More than that, the other half also had the day off, so we got to spend all day together, which was lovely. We get precious little time alone to spend as we wish, so it was a rare opportunity.

We started the day with a bit of a lie in, then got the house cleaned up - did a few jobs. Little things like taking the shower curtain down because it needed replacing. Once that was done, and it felt good, it was off to the gym.

Lovely hot shower after my workout and for once my hair and skin looked lovely and healthy so I felt extra good. We went for a coffee, bought a few things for the house, then got some lunch. It was really nice not having to rush around.

We then went for a drive out. We stumbled upon a farm shop a few miles away, so stocked up on steaks and meat for the weekend as we had family coming over. Then we carried on. We had one of those journeys where we found little villages not too far away that we had never heard of. I love little trips like that - its like a mini adventure.

Finally, we headed back and stopped off at Aldi for a few more bits then it was off home. I put up the new shower curtain and put things away. The other half finished off a few jobs, then the family arrived.

We all had tea together, and its been, all in all, a lovely relaxing day, with good company. Lots done, and feeling positive :)

Gym again today - third session this week! Get in :)

I had a day off work today. I decided a good way to spend it would be to go to the gym again. That's three times this week, and I am planning to go again on Sunday, making four. Excellent.

My legs are aching tonight, but it was worth it. Here is today's effort:

  • warm up walk on treadmill
  • 1 mile jog - still slow, but faster than my last attempt!!
  • Walk on incline until totalled 200 cal burned
  • 2 set of ab work including pulses and full sit ups
  • 100 cal burn on the stair master.
In total, 300 cals of cardio plus some ab work - not bad the day after PT!  I keep looking at all these people with amazing bodies, and I've come to realise it takes work. Noone looks like that without effort, so if effort is required, then effort shall be made :)

Top 10 Ice-cream flavours

I'm on a slight food obsession at the moment, courtesy of being on a diet and unable to actually eat anything I want!

So, continuing the theme, here are my top 10 ice-cream flavours:

  • Chocolate Chip
  • Clotted Cream Vanilla
  • Mint Choc Chip
  • Strawberries and Cream
  • Baileys
  • Toffee
  • White Choc Chunk
  • Coffee Mocha
  • Chocolate Brownie
  • Rum and Raisin
Now, listing my top 10 ice-cream flavours has got me thinking I wonder how many ice cream flavours there actually are? Maybe that's another project for another day. A yummy one too!! :)

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. Obviously, if you have just seen my PT post, I have returned to Personal Training this evening.

That is a real positive step in the right direction. I want to lose weight, but I also want to be fit and look fit, so I am feeling good about returning.

I've stuck to my diet, which is great. Better still, I have a day off tomorrow!! Yay!!

Things are very positive in general today and that is very very good :)

Tonight I returned to Personal Training - I am knackered!!!

So I returned to PT tonight. To a point, he took pity on my unfit self, and recognised that its been a while. To a point!! This was tonight's exercise menu:

  • walk on treadmill - 5 mins
  • warm up stretches
  • cross trainer sprints - 30 seconds on 30 seconds slow - 6 mins
  • kettle bell squats standing on step box - 4 x 15 reps
  • 4 x 4 length jogs of studio
  • bicep curl with weight bar - 4 x 15 reps
  • body weight squats - 15 reps
  • 5 minute run on treadmill
  • half squat thrusts - 3 x 15 reps
  • 3 x 4 lengths of the studio jogs
  • bench chest press with bar - 3 x 15 reps
  • dumbell press with free weights - 3 x 15 reps
  • standing forward lunge - 3 x 20 reps
  • ski machine - 3 reps of 1 minute
  • 3 mins cross trainer sprints
It was not as good as before, because I am unfit. I couldn't do anywhere near what I was pushing before, but I gave it my all. My fitness will return, and my strength is still there, so its all good.

Except how much I ache right now. Thats not so good :)

My Film Reviews - Oz The Great and Powerful

As a child, I was a massive fan of the Wizard of Oz, and even played a part in our dance school show of the same name. I also absolutely loved (and still do) Return to Oz. There is just something amazing about the whole story and the famous quotes it spawned, such as "Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore"!

When I saw a remake was afoot, I was both excited but also a bit worried in case it ruined it for me. The casting went some ways towards reassuring me mind you, as some great stars have been cast in this.

Lets start with the witches - there are three. This particular Oz variation is set well before Dorothy sets a ruby slippered foot in Oz, focusing instead on the wizard and the witches. So, the first witch, the good one, is Glinda, played by Michelle Williams (Dawson's Creek - big fan). The bad witch is Evanora, played by Rachel Weisz (the mummy and wife of Bond!). The good witch turned bad is Theodora, played by Mila Kunis (Ted, girlfriend of Ashton Kutcher), and is the one who ends up the infamous green pointy chinned witch!

James Franco (127 Hours - eek) played the lead Oz - Oscar Diggs. In my humble opinion, he is fab! The supporting characters and actors make this a real trip down memory lane if you are a fan of the original adaptations such as myself, and you can't help wondering if a remake of Dorothy is following on from this as it does appear to be setting the scene for such.

It starts in black and white, or sepia if you prefer to be specific. I wasn't expecting this and at first thought there was something up with the recording or my TV, then common sense kicked in and I realised it was done for effect. The colour - very bright, very vivid - kicks in when Oz lands in Oz, and to my untrained eye, I think its also for effect in homage to the technicolour of the original.

I also think that Michelle Williams part in Kansas hinted that she was going to become a "Gale" by marriage - Dorothy's mum perhaps? Seems a bit too much of a coincidence to me! Lots more hints of the future story when he reaches Oz in so much as the building of scarecrows (the scarecrow?), scaring off a lion (the cowardly lion?) and the whole point being that Oz was not a real wizard at all - remember the curtain scene in the original?

All in all, if you haven't seen the previous one its probably still going to entertain you. It's bright, exciting, the characters are fab - I particularly loved the little China Girl. If you are a fan already, it really doesn't disappoint and I thoroughly enjoyed it. When I was little, I demanded plaits like Dorothy be braided into my hair - now whilst I think I am a little past pulling that style off these days, I did feel that same enthralling excitement (mind you, I also demanded Princess Leia side buns back in the day!).

This to me is everything that a family friendly film should be, and with a great big dose of nostalgia thrown in for good measure. Go on, indulge yourself - just don't expect Shrek humour or innuendo - it's really not that sort of film!!

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. A little late today, but here it is. First up - the scales dropped a pound this morning!! Yay!!

I just couldn't help weighing in this morning. I am supposed to wait until Saturday, but I had to. Another loss - great stuff. It made me feel motivated.

I got quite a bit done today. I posted my ebay parcels, and did the "big shop" for the month. Stocked up on really exciting items like washing tabs, conditioner, washing up liquid and so on. It sounds dull as, but once its done, and the house is stocked up it feels good. I used my nectar points too, so it made it much cheaper, and I do love a bargain!!

On a slightly different note, I tried a new thing for my tea tonight. It was a sachet of "bare naked rice". It was extremely low fat, so I gave it a go. It only has 8 calories per 100g, and the pack is 250g, so its barely even 1 point on weight watchers. It tastes a little rubbery, but for one point I can cope with that. It filled me up, and that's what matters. So thats a little positive for today. I have discovered a new diet food I can have. Good stuff!!

I am feeling pretty positive about my diet and exercise efforts this week. I feel like I am making good progress. I've set myself some little targets and goals, and its keeping me going. I am feeling motivated and I am feeling positive.

All good. Another day with positives found. Thats every day in Jan so far. I am still surprised by this. Long may it last!! :)

Valentines Diet Challenge

I have set myself a challenge for Valentines Day. Since the 4th Jan, I have now lost a whopping 10lbs. So I am off to a pretty impressive start if I do say so myself!!

However, I want to up the ante now, and have a goal in mind for Valentines Day. That is 2 weeks and 4 days away, or 18 days to be more specific.

Now, I want to lose 11lbs. that would put me under the next stone down. That would be totally amazing. That is also going some on the weight loss front. I would need to shift 3lbs this week, then 4lbs for the next 2 weeks. Huge challenge, but actually, its possible if I do not detract at all.

So that's the plan, it looks like this:

  • Sunday 31st Jan - 3lbs to lose
  • Sunday 7th Feb - 4lbs to lose
  • Sunday 14th Feb - 4lbs to lose
How on earth am I going to do this you may ask. Well firstly, stick to the weight watchers points as per my WW app. Currently 30 points per day, and 42 weekly points. Had a decent weight loss last week. No reason to think I can't repeat it.

Last night I went to the gym. Tomorrow night its the return of the Personal Trainer. So that's 2 sessions leaving just one more to get in which is most likely going to be Friday.

Next week its PT Tues and Thurs, and I want to get up to 4 sessions, and the same the week after. So in total 10 gym sessions.

Every day I am building up my ab routine. Currently on 45 reps with 45 pulses. In addition, I start the 30 day beach body plan again from the 1st Feb, so I am maxing on the exercise.

All in all, I hope if I don't quite get there, to at least get close. Half a stone would be the minimum, but 11 would be amazing. No harm in aiming high (or rather low)!! :)

Daily Positivity Post

Its time for today's positivity post my lovelies. Quite late, I realise, but its been a good day today.

Firstly, I actually made it to the gym!! Hallelujah!! Finally got my backside moving so that's mega positive, and hopefully it will show on the weigh in this Saturday. PT starts again Thursday, so it had to be done.

I am starting to feel slimmer and my clothes are fitting better already so that's another positive. When I got to the gym and changed into my gym gear, they definitely fitted better and felt more comfortable. Long way to go, but I am feeling the benefits already.

I ran a mile, slowly, but faster than my previous attempts a few weeks back. I have got an award on my fitbit - Redwood Forest!! This is for completing over 25 floors today. I have been up and down stairs a lot today.

I also got my abs done, and hit over 12,000 steps!! Its been a rewarding and very active day. I am tired and achy, but in a good way and that is very positive. :)

My Retro Single of the Week - Baz Luhrman - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)

Time for this week's "Retro" single of the week and this time its the classic 'Every's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)' by Baz Luhrman.

This is one of my all time favourites. There is no singing - its a talking song, but it is so meaningful and thought provoking.

With that in mind, I had no idea whatsoever that this song's words are in fact an essay written by a columnist called Mary Schmich. That original essay was published in the Chicago Tribune in 1997.

Baz Luhrman used the whole essay in 'Sunscreen'. Ever likely it sounds so clever and well written. Its someone's essay!! The single was released in 1999, and features Baz talking over the top of a somewhat slowed down version of another classic song from back in 1991 - Rozalla's 'Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)".

This single hit the number 1 spot here in the UK singles chart. Deservedly so. This song just makes you stop and think about your life, and how we really shouldn't worry so much and should enjoy life.

I always forget that this song is actually Baz Luhrman, the Australian film director and producer. This, to my knowledge, is his only musical output, but what a classic it became.

You could say that this is a little melancholy, but if you really digest the words, really think about them, its actually very positive. It does bring out some deep emotions though if you absorb it, but that's no bad thing on this occasion.

These are the standout words for me "Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth, oh, never mind, You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth, Until they've faded, but trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine."

"Enjoy your body, use it every way you can, Don't be afraid of it or what other people think of it
It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own. "

Finally "Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your own living room". Wow.

To sum up, I think its fair to say that this is one of my all time favourites, and given that it was also a one-hit wonder, it has stood the test of time like no other. It's as good now as it was then, possibly better as my own years have advanced, giving the lyrics extra meaning for me.

If you have never heard this, you are missing out. If you have - go and listen to it again. This song is an experience, and I feel moved every time I hear it.

Let me know what you think of this, whether you love it or hate it; it will have an effect on you.

Been to the Gym tonight - bad start - forgot my pin. You know when you don't go enough when that happens!

I finally managed to drag my backside to the gym this evening. I had a shortlived return 2 weeks ago, but just haven't managed to get back since. Well tonight was the night. I returned.

I got off to a bit of a bad start, having totally gone blank on what my pin number was to get in!! It just removed itself from my mind. You really know you are not going enough when that happens!!

I had to log into my account and get it sent to me by email before I could even get in. Undeterred, I ventured in. I hate feeling so unfit, but once there, I was determined to put in a good effort.

Cue a 1 mile jog, after a bit of a warm up walk. Followed by 2 sets of abs, 50 cal burn on the stair master and 70 cals on the cross trainer.

That totalled 250 cals altogether, and got me far past my 10,000 steps a day target. Right now I am up to 11,824 steps to be precise.

I am tired now, and achy, even after a lovely hot shower but its a good feeling. I have returned to the gym, and feeling motivated. :)

Daily Positivity Post

Time for today's positivity post. Slightly random start today as I have an announcement. That announcement is "I have cheekbones"!!!

What?? Yes, you heard me correctly. My cheekbones are back. They've been MIA for a while now, courtesy of my expanded body mass in recent weeks. I was more "pilsbury dough girl" than "chiselled cheekbones" for a while there, but they are back and welcome they are. So that's a good positive for today!!

I'm in quite a good mood entirely today to be honest. I am not entirely sure why though. I can live with that though. I think losing weight helps, but its not the whole reason. I just generally feel like I am more in control of myself currently, and that's a nice feeling.

Take tonight - I got home, and got cracking on wrapping my ebay parcels. With that done, I prepped tomorrow's lunch packs for work, then got on with making myself a healthy tea. Whilst I was waiting for it to cook, I got down and did me some ab work. Good eh? I'm impressed anyway.

I've worked really hard today. I've got a lot done. Over the weekend, I've done some niggly things, like backing up my photo's, and sorting out my post clutter - just things that were bugging me.

Today I've really embraced the power of visualisation. I have literally been imagining myself and what I will wear, how I will look, at the point I reach goal weight. I actually feel like a weight has been lifted. I wish it was so easy to actually get the weight off, but even so, I feel better, I feel good.

Finally, I got changed out of my work stuff when I got home and shrugged on a pair of joggers. Over Christmas this very pair was tighter than tight, and I could just about tie the draw string waist. Tonight? Well tonight, I have had to pull the string tight to get them to stay up!! Result!!

Another day with positives. Lots of them today. Feeling good. And its a Monday!! Fabulous :)

Challenge is on!!

Just sitting here, earlier this evening, chatting away about my diet plans and goals to the other half. I mentioned to him that I have booked in having my hair done this Saturday coming as I got under the stone mark and its a little reward to myself.

Then I said I wasn't booking my nails in to be done until I get under the half stone mark. That's 4lbs to reach the half stone mark, so 4 1/2lbs to get under it. Assuming I lose 2 pound a week, that will take me to the end of next week. Its another little incentive.

My other half suddenly says that if I get to that goal by the end of next week, he will pay for my nails!! Bonus!! Nails done and on him!!

Challenge is on !!
