ebay wrapping - again

Its that time again. More ebay wrapping to be done. I like the feeling of selling clothes I no longer wear, for someone else to get some use out of.

I just really do not enjoy sitting wrapping it all!! I think there is a business idea out there for someone to do the wrapping for you!! Maybe its a goer. Certainly won't be set up by me though - can't think of anything worse!!

Brown paper, carrier bags, sharpie markers and sellotape out. Clothes down from storage all ready to be parcelled up. It will be a good feeling - when its done!! :(

Today I am going to a Posh Pool Party!!

My other half was 50 last month. I was quite imaginative thinking of different things we could do to celebrate. One of the final gifts is a posh pool party at our local spa resort.

Its starting at 5pm, and there will be cocktails. There will be live music. There will be an outdoor heated pool and full use of the spa. There will be nibbles. There will be a log fire!!!

How exciting!!! I have no idea what to wear - bikini or cossie? Dress up or dress casual? I shall just take spares with me I think - better prepared!!

I am really excited!! Never been to a posh pool party before. I shall let you know how it goes of course!! :)

Today's new Spanish words to learn

  • Book - el libro
  • Garden - el gardin
  • Bathroom - el baño

What I'm Watching This Week

  • I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. I apologise for this, but I am still massively entertained by the one and only Lady C. Her use of the english language is sublime, her put downs are beyond argument, and her pearls in the jungle and her complete lack of concern over popularity are just the recipe for compulsive viewing!! Ant and Dec, as ever, are just the icing on the cake. I have literally laughed out loud this series. Great stuff.

  • The Affair. We watched the whole of series 1 on boxset and were hooked. Series 2 has started now, so we've caught up on the first few episodes and are now bang up to date. All I can say is that whoever wrote the script for this has clearly been through a similar experience. Its too accurate, and too raw for it to be pure imagination. This is powerful, emotional and mesmerising. I am desperate for the next episode!

  • The Apprentice. Sir Alan is on fine form this series. The hopeful candidates however? Not so much. I mean really? A kids party is supposed to be fun. One team were like they were on a health and safety course - dull, dull, dull. Then the T-shirts were a disaster. The other team were a girl's party. It was all sports and they didn't even get fed properly!! The goodie bags were awful, and they didnt even get the client's phone number!! For professional sorts, they certainly don't show it!!

My Top 10 Sundaes

  • Oreo Cookies & Cream
  • Honeycomb explosion
  • Rocky Horror
  • Chocolate Ice Cream
  • Cookie Dough and Fudge
  • Hot Chocolate Fudge
  • Banana Split
  • Caramel Apple
  • Neopolitan
  • Eton Mess

Top 10 Chocolate Bars

Continuing my theme of lovely things I can't eat because I am on a diet, here is my next Top 10. My Top 10 chocolate bars:

  • Dairy Milk (any flavour - love them all)
  • Yorkie Bar (it is for girls!)
  • Snickers
  • Cadbury Caramel
  • Galaxy
  • Toblerone
  • Lindt Lindor milk bar
  • Milka - plain or prauline
  • Kit Kat Chunky
  • Mars Bar
I love chocolate, but if I had to choose a favourite, I think it would have to be Dairy Milk. Mmmm. :)

My Film Reviews - Black Swan

I used to love Ballet when I was younger. I was never destined to be a prima ballerina though. Having just watched Black Swan, I am eternally grateful for that.

Starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis this is a disturbing film indeed. Billed as a pyschological thriller/horror, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I mean how scary can ballet be? Right?

Wrong. Portman plays Nina, a fragile, supremely perfect ballerina, perfectly suited to the role of the White Swan of Swan Lake. Fragile, elegant, innocent. She executes perfection in her every move.

However, she is too perfect, too precise and too frigid to play the sensual black swan. She must become both. Mila Kunis plays Lily, who arrives at the company, and is the embodiment of the black swan.

The pressure builds, and Nina starts to spiral out of control as she begins to lose her grip on reality. Her mother tries to live her dreams through Nina, having never actually made it as prima ballerina herself. She piles the pressure upon Nina, who becomes haunted by a double of herself. Kunis' Lily becomes her nemesis, threatening her fragile mind when she becomes the understudy.

Driven near insane with the pressure, Nina starts to self harm - scratching herself and imagining losing finger nails and so on. She finds Lily in her dressing room, and a fight breaks out. Nina stabs Lily, then goes on to give an epic performance as the dark and sensual black swan. She receives a standing ovation and returns to the dressing room. When Lily comes to congratulate her, she realises the fight was her imagination.

Nina sees the mirror is still smashed, and finally, she realises she has in fact cut herself with the glass. Back on stage again as the white swan, about to throw herself off the cliff, she sees that her mother is crying. She is beautiful, perfect, and as the climax builds, she becomes the swan. Throwing herself from the cliff to fall upon the hidden mattress, tears fall down her face.

The company gather to congratulate her, but see that she is bleeding badly. The applause is deafening, as she whispers "I felt it, perfect, it was perfect". The lights go white and it ends there.

Now, if you aren't a ballet fan, you are probably wondering what all the fuss is about. I can honestly say that Portman portrays the pressure of trying to reach the top, and the resultant breakdown in such consistent realistic style that ballet or not, it is mesmerising. She herself is so beautiful and fragile and talented, that it has you enthralled. You don't have to know a thing of ballet. Although a fact for those fact fans out there, is that both Portman and Kunis trained hard to learn the craft - for several months to reach the level they needed to portray here. That is dedication.

I wouldn't say this is horror, but its definetely scary and well worth a watch. An oscar winning performance, but enough of that. Its a damn good watch. 9 out of 10 from me. Fantastic.

Lady C - Legend!!

Lady C is a legend. There, I've said it! This evening she turned cougar with Dec and it was in equal parts wonderful and yet the most cringeworthy thing I have ever witnessed!!

Her quotes will stick with me for years to come. "Nothing shall induce me to change my mind". Deeming tonight's Bushtucker Trial "tiresome".

She is so argumentative and full of her own importance, arrogant and opinionated, but for sheer TV gold she is priceless!!

If you haven't watched it so far, then its worth watching just for her. Best contestant ever. Way to go IACGMOOH! Genius :)

My new single of the week 'Love Me' by The 1975

This week I have chosen 'Love Me' by The 1975 as my new single of the week. Released in October, this has gained more airplay in the past week or so, finally reaching my ears!!

Its one of those that on first listen, you think "who is this then"? I mean the 1975 don't normally sound like this do they? Nope. This is a stomping track. Its like they've turned into the love child of Peter Gabriel and Michael Hutchence - that sort of catchy, rock come pop number that wedges firmly into your head.

Its the first single from their forthcoming album 'I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It' which has yet to be released. If this is anything to go by, its going to be a very different album to their debut. They are also due to tour, so fans should be in for a treat!

Lead singer Matt Healy seems to have adopted something of a change of image too. Just check out the video that accompanies this!! You will see where I'm coming from on the Hutchence genre!! Leather trousers anyone?

Back to the song. The lyrics are clever. "You've got a beautiful face but got nothing to say", and "You look famous, let's be friends" show this song is a bit tongue in cheek about pop culture. Fame for fame's sake. The video is more of the same sarcasm - cardboard cutouts of famous types, including Mr Bean!! Fabulous stuff!!

I love this song. Its catchy, its clever, and its different. Its also a pop song, but one that's true to its indie roots. Great stuff!! So what are you waiting for? Go and take a listen and let me know what you think of it!

You can find all my previous single choices over at My Music page here. Happy listening :)

My New Single of the Week ... is coming up next!!

Its that time again. The time to choose a new single of the week!! Whoop!!

Back in ten :)

2015 - The Story so Far - September

September was all about losing weight and trying to get fit.

This consisted of the Beach Body Challenge for 30 days, thinking of reasons to stick to my diet to try and keep my motivation going, and of course going back to PT

I did lots of future planning, sorting out our wills, pensions and generally putting such things in place. A touch on the morbid side granted, but it had to be done!!

I spent time looking back on my 2015 Resolutions, and adding a few more things to my wishlist. Of course I also spent time planning for my forthcoming October holiday!! More on that in a look back to October.

September was a month for sorting things out. Cupboards, life, body and soul. It was a good month :)

Phewf!!!

When it snows up here, it snows!!

This was the scene when it snowed last night where we are.

In less than an hour, the cars were covered.

It looked very pretty, but it was treacherous.

This morning, my car was still thick in snow as I drove into town. Clearly, other parts had not had it so bad, as my car was attracting more than a few looks amongst other mainly snowless cars!!

5th Nov 13 - The first session!

Thank God its Friday - what a horrible week!!

I've had a horrible week, and its still only Friday!! It started off with everyone feeling sad after last week's Paris attacks. Facebook was awash with Tricolor and it was a beautiful sight to behold.

That was Friday the 13th. Then began my own run of bad luck and sad news. First up were the storms on Saturday night, that blew and howled and rattled the place. That led to the lights flickered on and off, before Western Power arrived with their flashlights. Faced with a looming powercut it was a tense night.

Monday saw my team at work move into our new office accommodation. Stressful just wasn't the word. It was emotional in all manner of ways as we tried to get everything set up.

Tuesday I had some very sad news that a friend and colleague of over ten years, had passed away at the obscenely young age of 37 years old. I myself am 39 and my gosh it made me feel awful. Those younger than yourself are not supposed to die in their sleep.  My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones. Sad news.

Wednesday night I pulled my car up our drive, opened my driver side door only for the wind to catch it and slam it into the wall. The edge of the door is now slightly dented, and the paint has chipped on the edge. Damn weather!!

That was all bad enough. Then today, it got worse. I got into my car on Thursday morning, and as soon as I tried to turn at the bottom of the drive, the car did not want to know. The steering was completely stiff. My tyre light had come on so I thought it was a flat tyre. I limped it to the service station, checked the pressure, and it seemed fine. Back in the driver seat, and still no power steering. Made it to work, then took the car to the garage at lunch. Bad news. My little brum is still at the garage and its going to cost me a pretty penny from the sound of things.

What a week!! Feeling very stressed indeed. Thank God for the weekend. Here's to a better week.

This Week I am Watching

  • The Apprentice. I am so loving this series. Last week Sir Alan fired not 1, not 2, but 3 candidates. This week they made a total farce of selling cheap in bulk. The bitching and back biting is pure entertainment. Claude and Karen as the side kicks this year pack a punch for sure! Quality stuff.
  • The Affair. Almost at the end of season 1 of this fantastic drama series and my goodness. This has literally taken my breath away at times. It captures the essence of how it feels to be in love with someone you can't be with. That longing, that unspoken obsession. Whoever wrote this, has been through this. So raw, so real, and so beautiful to watch.
  • I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. I had never heard of Lady C before this week. Now, I am a huge fan. The woman is a phenomenon. Some of her quotes this week had me literally laughing out loud. " Nothing can induce me to change my mind" is my favourite. Best series so far. Ant and Dec just brilliant, as always. Love it!!

My Film Reviews - Sanctum

anctum caught my eye on the guide over the weekend so I decided to give it a try. Its not all that old - it was released in 2011, but I had not seen it, and knew nothing of it. James Cameron is the executive producer though, so I thought it was likely to be pretty good.

I was not wrong. It starts off with a group of adventurous types heading towards an under water cave system in Papua New Guinea. We meet Josh, 17, whose dad, Frank, is a very experienced diver who has already set up forward camp inside the cave system. Josh is travelling with a guy named Carl and his girlfriend Vic, and makes it known that he doesn't rate his father at all. Even the first part is terrifying. There is nothing on this earth that would make me go down into what is basically a great big hole in the ground.

Anyway, below them, the team at forward camp start off to explore a part of the cave system that is new and unknown. One of the women, Jude gets into problems with her air hose whilst in the new system. She loses her air and the two divers, she and Frank, begin to buddy breathe, or try to. Jude starts to really panic and holds onto the mask, stopping Frank from being able to breathe himself. Frank has no choice but to take his mask back or they would both die. Jude drowns, as Josh and the others are watching on the monitor. Its not pleasant watching, not at all.

Josh assumes it was his dad's fault. They argue about why Jude died, and eventually Frank tells Josh that Jude had dived in an exhausted state, having had to go fetch the extra tanks that Josh was supposed to bring. Above ground, a storm has started. Josh wants to leave, and Frank doesn't stop him. He arranges buddy climber to go with him to the entrance.

Josh heads back along with Luko, Liz and JD, some of those that were on forward camp with his dad. As they start to climb, they realise the storm is bad. Very bad. Water starts to pour in, the storm has become a cyclone. They try to carry on climbing, but Josh realises how much water is coming down is going to flood the system below, and can't leave his dad down there.

Frank, Carl and Victoria appear though, as they had also realised that they needed to get out. Unfortunately, the water has turned into a treacherous flood like a waterfall blocking their way. As Frank and Carl try to help Vic, Josh straps a rope around a boulder to try and assist. The boulder starts to move though, and Josh and Vic fall into the flood camp below, while Luko tries to free himself. He loses his grip and smashes into the rock wall. He seems badly injured, but things get worse as Luko is washed away with the force of the water and no one can reach him.

The boulder has blocked the way out, so they have no choice but to enter the underwater systems again to search for another way out of there. At this point, I was panicking, nevermind those in the film! Vic, refusing to wear recently deceased Judes wetsuit, is given a bit of a crash course in diving and off they go into the dark and unknown. Before they get far, Luko is washed up and found to be very badly injured, his face all smashed up and his body bent and broken, but still alive. He cant go with them in that condition, so Frank has to save him from further pain by drowning him rather than leave him alone to linger on death.

George - Frank's experienced buddy, Vic and Carl, Josh and Frank all make the dive and reach the other side of the system. Resting for a little while, Vic regrets not wearing the suit as she shivers from the cold. George, without letting onto the group, struggles to breath. Clearly, he has the bends from the dive, but doesn't tell them. When he starts to cough up blood, he hides in the tunnels from the group, knowing that he will hold them back. Frank struggles to search, shouting for George, but in the gloom and all the nooks and tunnels, he can't find him and has to carry on.

When they find George's tanks and gears, Frank realises what must have happened. They reach a huge hole and cannot go any further. Josh manages to hook a line across to the other side. Vic starts to cross but with being so cold still, she loses her grip. She drops and gets her hair tangled in the line. the only thing holding her is her hair. Screaming with the pain, the others can't get to her as the line won't take the weight. She takes her knife and cuts her hair free, dropping to her death below. Carl flees in dispair, not being able to cope with it any longer, leaving Josh and Frank alone.

They reach a cave with a giant hole in the roof, with sunlight pouring in. They find a tank of all things, that must have fallen through years before. They can't get out though, as there is nothing to climb and no way to get up to the surface. They rest a while, then head back through the system once again. They find Carl, who has located vic's body and gone a bit bonkers to be honest. When Frank says they must continue, Carl goes for him and Frank lands on a sharp stone badly injuring him. Josh gets Carl off his dad, but the damage is done. Carl realises what he's done finally, and swims away into the cave system alone.

Josh only then realises his dad is dying. The sharp stone was in fact a stalagmite and from his breathing its clear Frank is a goner. He asks Josh to help him. Josh can't do it, but as he watches his once strong and formidable dad fading and in such pain, he know he must. Forlorn, josh continues onwards to try and get out. He heads back into the system, finding Carl who has drowned, but he carries on. At this point, it seems they are all going to die down there, Josh included.

Josh starts to drift away, losing hope and I was convinced he was gone too. Then he sees a beam of light through the water, and uses it to guide him to the surface. He escapes the caves and makes it out into the ocean and air. He crawls onto the beach and is rescued, the only survivor.

There are no big names in this film - one or two faces I recognised though. Frank for one, played by Richard Roxburgh I recognise from Mission Impossible II, and George from a shark drama film called Bait. The script isn't that brilliant either - little bit predictable and flat. However, that isn't actually a problem.

This film is saved by several key things - the location is stunning, the visual and photography is amazing; the thought of A-going into such a large dark hole in the earth, and B-getting stuck down there is terrifying. The fact that in real life this has happened is even more scary. Worse than that, one of the stunt doubles actually drowned in the same system or near it not longer after this film was released. Talk about life imitating art!!

This is a truly terrifying tale. It doesn't need monsters hiding in the murky depths, or sharks or any such distraction. Its claustrophobic setting and feel would be enough to send anyone to the brink of despair and their sanity. The thought of diving beneath the earth, in the dark, with no idea of where or if there is a way out?? Truly scary.

If you want to scare the pants off yourself, watch this. If you don't like tight spaces I really wouldn't! I enjoyed this film a lot. I wouldn't give it a high score out of 10 for the acting, but it was good enough overall to recommend. I would probably say its a five or six out of ten this one, but still very good and very worth a watch. Enjoy and let me know what you thought. :)

2015 - the story so far - August

August was all about body, mind and house. This consisted of going to the gym. A lot! Also, having lots of sort outs, including this epic task:

I made some changes to my life, such as not sweating the small stuff, and making a vow to myself to work as hard as I could to be all I can be.

That's not to say its job done, but my goodness, all the work on the house has made it a much better place to be. Its not cluttered and disorganised, but neither is it soulless.

I wanted to be able to make my home my safe place where I can relax. Mission accomplished.

Been to the gym again - I shall be fit!!

Tonight, with aching limbs and sore muscles pretty much everywhere, I did not feel like going to the gym at all. But I have overcome this lack of will power and I have been to the gym!!

I have done quite a decent and respectable workout. I ran a mile, walked on an incline, then did a burst on the cross trainer, before finishing with the stair master. I hate that machine, but there is no denying it works!!

Then it was time for a lovely hot shower, before heading home for my Tesco grocery order to arrive. Lots of healthy stuff is now filling the cupboards and fridges which makes dieting a much easier prospect.

Tonight, it was weight watchers rice with quorn steaks. It was yummy.

So I am back on track, which is good, because I really need to be. Just got to keep it going now.

All these films that I have seen 10 #100
