Losing the will

I have lost my will power, hence officially losing the will. Why? No idea!! I was buoyed up last Saturday, but since that great weight loss I have eaten and drank everything in site!!

Kit kats, flapjacks, crisps, cheese and onion sandwiches, more flapjacks, freddo bars. Not to mention, hot chocolate, creamy coffee, coffee mochas and then of course wine and a couple of shorts. Portion sizes are out of control, so is the weight watchers app - who cares what points I've eaten at this point? Not me!!

But I will. I know that much for sure! I skipped weigh in today - thought it best not to under the circumstances, but the depressing thing is that its now just 3 weeks until my holiday and when I can't fit in my clothes, I will regret this no end.

Right now though, I am enjoying myself. Right now, I'm about to have a glass of wine - sod it. I have been to PT today, so its not a complete disaster, but I just can't seem to get my head on right for some reason!!

Must knuckle down after today as this cannot continue. But that leaves me with tonight to enjoy!! Cheers :)

My Film Reviews - Silver Linings Playbook

Silver Linings Playbook could be described as a romantic comedy / drama starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.

Bradley Cooper plays Patrizio "Pat" Solatano Jr. We meet Pat when he is released from a psychiatric hospital with diagnosed bi-polar, to live with his parents. His parents being Pat Senior - none other than Robert De Niro and mum Delores - Jacki Weaver.

We establish early on that he is ever so slightly obsessed with his wife Nikki, from whom he is separated. Having stated his determination to get back with her, he meets Tiffany - Jennifer Lawrence. She is a bit bonkers it turns out, having just been widowed. They develop an offbeat kind of friendship, where she clearly starts to like Pat, whilst he continually fantasises and talks about getting his ex back.

We learn that he had a violent episode before being sent away, provoked by hearing his wedding song playing whilst he found his wife in the shower with another guy. Said wedding song being "My Cherie Amour" the naff Stevie Wonder hit. Pat reacts badly now every time the song plays, which you would think wouldn't happen often.

Back to Nikki and Tiffany. Pat realises there is a connection and tries to encourage Tiffany to give a letter to Nikki in which he professes his love. She persuades him to become her dance partner in return for doing this for him, and although he really does not want to she convinces him. Nikki has apparently passed a letter back to Pat on receipt of his letter. It seems to suggest there is hope.

He thinks that seeing him dance might make Nikki see him differently and take him back. They practice hard. It's so funny when his friend arrives on the dancing practice. Jennifer Lawrence has the sort of body I want and am dieting hard to achieve!!

Pat Jr is then put in a tricky position. His dad wants to watch the game with him, Tiffany wants to dance practice. There is such a clever scene then where everyone is arguing, as his dad has lost his bet, when Tiffany arrives and impresses everyone with her knowledge and demeanor. This is one cool chick indeed.

A new bet is placed, but this time, it includes Pat and Tiffany. In a parlay, they must score at least 5 in the dance competition or the bet will be lost. Pat is reluctant, so they tell him Nikki will be there to watch him.

Everyone arrives at the dance comp on the night of the big game. Tiffany realises that the lie has backfired - Nikki has really come to watch. She realises that she has lost Pat. She starts to drink. They do their dance - its bit rubbish, but unbelievably they just scrape through with the points they needed. The eagles win - the bet is won!!

Pat goes straight to Nikki, but its too much for Tiffany and she runs away out of the place. He speaks to Nikki for just a moment, then goes back to his dad. His dad tells him Tiffany loves him, and Pat goes after her. He finds her and hands her a note which says he knows she forged the letter from Nikki. He tells her he loves her. Happily, madly every after.

Now, this all sounds twee right? Wrong. Bradley is brilliantly mad, and Tiffany convincingly bonkers. The chemistry is real, these two play the most amazing parts - sparking off one another and its thoroughly absorbing. Add the great cast, the great scenes with Pat Jr and Snr and you have an absolutely stella film. Clever, witty, emotional, dramatic, crazy, funny - awesome film.

The two leads - Lawrence and Cooper I have not seen flex their acting muscles before. I have seen them in other films, but they shine here. Both were nominated for Oscars, Lawrence won. Deservedly - she is mesmerising in this and shows that she is a great actress. Her character is messed up, but not so much as to be beyond understanding. I think we can all sympathise with those feelings sometimes.

I cannot recommend this film enough. Its a ten out of ten from me. go watch it now. Fabulous. :)

7 Reasons to Stick to my Diet

Number 1
#Reason No 1 - I want to look good in a bikini!!

This is my intention to think of a reason every day to stick to my diet.

If I can keep that thought in mind for each whole day, I hope it will be enough to keep me motivated and inspired. .

Number 2
#Reason No 2 - I want to be a Size 10/12

My intention to think of a reason every day to stick to my diet.

If I can keep this thought in mind for each whole day, I hope it will be enough to keep me motivated and inspired.

Reason Number 2 is that I have reached a Size 12 once or twice, but never maintained it, and I need to be a bit smaller still. So size 10/12 is the goal.

Number 3
Reason number 3 to stick to my diet: To fit into all those lovely clothes in my wardrobe!!

I have many items in my wardrobe that I can't currently wear. Some are mere pounds away from fitting, some I can barely get up to my knees!! Some do fit, but look awful because they fit in all the wrong places!!

It would be lovely to open my wardrobe and just be able to select an item, knowing it will fit me. It would make packing for holiday a pleasure, not a challenge!!

Number 4
My reason number 4 for sticking to my diet is to look good at work. I am fed up of wearing the same old clothes every day. I want to be able to wear what I want to wear, not just black and grey.

I want to be more stylish, more groomed, more put together. So my fourth reason is to look good at work.

Number 5
Number 5 on my list of reasons to stick to my diet is to have more confidence. When I gain weight, I feel self conscious, and horrible, and grumpy.

When I lose some weight, I have more confidence, I feel happier and better. So that's reason number 5!

Number 6:

I want to be noticed for the right reasons!! I am fed up of walking into bars, restaurants, offices and feeling eyes on me - for all the wrong reasons! I want to be the person that gets looks in a good way. So that is my reason number 6!!

Number 7:

Ok so number 7 is a bit different. This reason is a bit of a phobia I seem to have developed. I have a real issue with facing the mirrors at the gym. When I am working certain exercises, I am supposed to check my technique in the mirror. Not me, no way, never!! I will face the other way, or if I have no choice, I will look anywhere but at that damn mirror!!

So reason number 7 for sticking to my diet is to reach a weight where I am comfortable seeing myself in the mirror when I work out.

My Film Reviews - Salem's Lot

Salem's Lot. Even the name sounds sinister. Jerusalem's Lot to give it its full and correct name. Originally a Stephen King book, released in 1975.

You will know already that Stephen King is the master of horror, and you know that as one of his books, its going to be 1 - scary, and 2 - great. Salem's Lot is quite possibly the best of his scares.

This is a classic film and is packed full of scares and jumpy bits. Its based on the book, and was released in 1979. It revolves around Ben Mears, played by David Soul. He returns to the town he grew up in, only to suspect something is wrong.

What is wrong, is that the town is being turned into vampires! A mysterious new arrival in the town, Mr Straker and his elusive and unseen partner Mr Barlow, open their new antique shop and purchase the town's alleged haunted house. The Marsten House was the scene of Mears being scared as a child. Its no less scary as an adult he soon discovers!!

Make no mistake, this is one scary, scary film. I feel made all the more so by its aged appearance. Mr Barlow is the ultimate scare - think old school vampires, but the Glicks tap tapping on the window is the single most scary scene ever. Not so much while watching but you just wait until the next time a branch taps on your bedroom window in the night!

Vampires and gothic horror at its best. James Mason as Straker was an inspired choice, but this is so well written and so utterly scary, that it couldn't fail to give you the spooks. Stephen King, master of horror at his very best here.

Be warned - if you watch this, you will never hear tapping on the window without remembering the Glicks!!

Getting Slimmer :)

I weighed myself this morning, and I was so pleased to see the scales were down again!! I will share my weigh in on Saturday, when hopefully it will have dropped more.

However, I want to get under the stone mark, so its still a challenge. Not least because as a Weight Watchers follower, my points have now dropped to 26!! I have one precious point less each day. Arghh!!

Getting slimmer = less points. This is a concern as its getting ever more tricky to keep within points. I do however, still have my 49 weekly points, which so far, several weeks into this diet, I have not really dipped into that much - just a couple of points.

It does give me some freedom though if I get desperate. For now though, I am just delighted to be getting slimmer!!

Reasons to Stick to My Diet #7

Number 7:

Ok so number 7 is a bit different. This reason is a bit of a phobia I seem to have developed. I have a real issue with facing the mirrors at the gym. My Film Reviews - Chasing Mavericks

Chasing Mavericks is a film released in 2012, but it wasn't widely advertised as far as I was aware, as I had not previously heard of it. Looking for something to watch, we read the synopsis and found that it was based on a real life story. So we gave it a go.

It stars Gerard Butler as Frosty Hesson, but is based on the real-life story of a Californian boy called Jay Moriarity. We first meet Jay as an eight year old, when he is with a little girl by the sea. Frosty rescues him and the two strike up a sort of friendship. It sets Frosty off again with his love for the surf.

Fast forward seven years, and Jay is now 15 years old. Jay sneaks a ride on the van, and sees Frosty and his pals riding a giant surf wave known as "Mavericks". This wave only rides in every seven to ten years. It will peak in three months time. In case you hadn't guessed already, yes, this is a surfer flick, but with a difference.

Jay asks Frosty to train him. Frosty is reluctant, but his wife Brenda persuades him, telling him Jay is going to do it anyway. Frosty gives in, but on condition that Jay learns all the skills to surf, including being able to tread water for 40 minutes, and paddle boarding the 36 miles stretch along the coast from Santa Cruz to Monterey Bay.

Frosty also gives him homework, and he has to write essays. He choices Kim as his first essay. She was the little girl at the start. He gets closer to Kim whilst he trains, and they develop a friendship. Brenda encourages it to be more. Sadly, a few weeks before the big wave, Brenda dies. Frosty is heartbroken and takes off.

Realising where he has gone, Jay heads off after him, paddle-boarding. He finds Frosty, and brings him back. Frosty realises Jay is ready. Frosty tests Jay in the water, and he and his surfer buddies agree Jay is ready to ride Mavericks.

Jay turns 16, and his mum (played by Elisabeth Shue) gives him a radio so he can listen to the weather to track the swell. She knew all along what he was up to, despite his faking her consent. Frosty gives Jay a new board, especially for Mavericks. Unfortunately, despite wanting to keep it secret about Mavericks, a boy Jay is rivals with finds his notebook.

When Jay and Frosty head to the bay, they find a lot of surfers already there. Lots of surfers wipe out on first attempt, including Jay. He tries again though and a tense moment comes when its not clear if he is going to surface again. Frosty reassures Kim, who is also watching on the beach that its ok so long as he stays tethered to the board. The board flips up though and Frosty counts the seconds down on his fingers, as he trained Jay to do.

Finally Jay gets back up and rides Mavericks. Its an emotional scene. I thought it was going to be a sad ending. Thankfully it wasn't. Spoke to soon. A caption comes up after he rides Mavericks and survives and says that he went on to marry Kim. Sadly though, it continues saying that the real life Jay died free diving in the Maldives. The film ends where Frosty, Kim and lots of surfers are holding a memorial for Jay. I was sobbing at this point I have to say. Just 22 when he died, what a tragic loss of a young talented life.

Now, its a pleasant to watch film, and the end is weepy for sure. However, its a bit rigid and stiff, there isn't much dialogue and the characters don't really get explored. You don't really feel all that moved up until the end, as it doesn't seem to spend time building the chemistry. Its nice, Butler is quite good in it, but the acting is a bit of the wooden type. As a surfing film, its not exactly dynamic, but its sweet and its worth a watch. I would only give it a five out of ten though, and a couple of those in respect for the real Jay.

My New Single of the Week - Galantis - Peanut Butter Jelly

My single of the week is the totally addictive 'Peanut Butter Jelly' from Galantis.

Galantis are a swedish dance duo, Christian Karlsson and Linus Eklow. They've already had a massive hit with Runaway (U&I) but this is much better, in my humble opinion of course!

Both this single and the previous one are from their debut album 'Pharmacy' released earlier in 2015.

Officially released as a single in July 2015, this is only now reaching its peak in popularity and getting some serious airplay.

I watched the video that accompanies this single today for the first time. One word - brilliant! It starts as a car pulls up, cleverly playing U&I! The scene changes to a supermarket, where various frumpy and dull types queue for their merchandise. A hottie is sucking on a lolly in one aisle. Suddenly, a large man dons a very unflattering lycra number and starts to dance. He's sooned joined by others, and eventually the whole store erupts into a dance floor. Its such a funny video - well worth a watch.

This is a really catchy, really addictive song. Its also quite sexual really, or sounds it anyway. I'm not sure why really, as it doesn't overtly say anything, just "Spread it like peanut butter jelly, Do it like I owe you some money" somehow sounds a bit risque!!

I think its fair to say I absolutely love this dance track. Upbeat, great sound, great pace, funny, catchy - what's not to love? I defy you to take a listen of this and not get it stuck in your head all day!! Go on, what are you waiting for?

My Film Reviews - Insidious

Insidious was released in 2010, and since then there has been a second installment, Insidious 2, as a result of the brilliance of the first one.

Directed by James Wan this is a truly terrifying film, with a proper scary plot line. Its stars Patrick Wilson, who featured in my previous scary film review, The Conjuring. It also stars Rose Byrne, who is off another off my favourite scary films, 28 Weeks Later.

They play a couple with 2 small sons and a baby girl. Renai (Byrne) and Josh (Wilson) Lambert, the parents, move their family into a new home. Dalton, their son, starts to hear strange creaking sounds up in the loft, but trying to investigate manages to fall off the ladder. He screams, as he sees something in the corner, and his parents come rushing to him.

Dalton seems ok, so Renai and Josh decide the loft is a no-go zone for the kids to be on the safe side. The next day though, Dalton goes into a coma like state. After three months with no change, the hospital let his parents take him home. Things get much worse once he's back.

How terrified would you be if you heard noises over your baby monitor? Yep, that's what happens. Absolutely petrifying. The burglar alarm goes off, Renai sees dark figures in the house, and gets attacked by one of them. They abandon the house. I would too -  I was by this point utterly scared.

They move to another house, and Josh's mother Lorraine joins the family. She has a dream featuring a horrible demon with a vivid evil red face, and he summons Dalton, who is still in a coma. Renai sees more supernatural beings, and its clear whatever wants Dalton is going to come wherever they move to. They decide to call in the experts.

Elise, the single spookiest character I have ever seen, is hired to investigate. She comes to the house with her assistants, and immediately Elise feels a presence. Elise sees the demon, and her assistant sketches it. Its the same red faced lovely from Lorraine's dream. The demon who wants Dalton.

The paranormal investigator tries to explain that Dalton is not in a true coma, but rather is somewhere else, leaving only his physical body. He has somehow travelled too far into the astral plane and is trapped there. The longer he is away, the more vulnerable he becomes. Josh isn't buying it, until he realises Dalton has been drawing this demon all along.

They try a seance next, but when the demon proves too strong, Elise has to stop the spirits coming through Dalton to attack them. Knowing time is of the essence, Elise reveals that she and Lorraine had to do the same thing with Josh as a child. He too was able to astral project, but his demon was a horrible scary old woman.

Elise persuades Josh to go into the scarily titled "The Further" to go and get his son back, telling him only he can do it. Josh rescues Dalton, but the usually jaunty song "Tiptoe through the Tulips" will now forever fill me with fear - you will know what I mean if you watch it!

Josh brings Dalton back, and whilst they should be celebrating, Elise is concerned. She snaps a photo of Josh sending him into a full blown rage. He roars at Elise and murders her, strangling her to death. Renai finds the camera, and sees that the photo is of the twisted dark old woman. Josh has been possessed. Josh speaks "I'm right here" but she is frozen to the spot. The old woman puffs out the candle and it all goes dark.

I can't remember ever being more scared by a film. This one is not for the faint hearted, it really is a scary film but don't watch it on your own!!
