BB - I'm done :(

I'm over BB now. Was quite enjoying it on account of having no choice asDavid Grundy is such a fan, but after this evenings show I'm done. Just stupid and pointless and actually although it was I assume supposed to be clever, it was not. Meh frown emoticon

Off to London!

I am very excited. I am, right now, this very second, on a train to the Capital.

I won some shopping vouchers for Westfield shopping centre so that's exciting to start with.

Then I've booked a bus tour for tomorrow - here's hoping the weathers better tomorrow!

I haven't been to London for about 10 years so I am really looking forward to it.

G has never been at all and could barely sleep last night she was so excited!

Sod the diet for the next two days. Life is too short! :)

Day 3 of My Week with The Kaiser Chiefs - Little Shocks

Day 3 of My Week with The Kaiser Chiefs and today its 'Little Shocks'.

This was released as a single back in 2011. It was taken from their album 'The Future is Medieval'. It only reached number 179 in the singles chart, but do not let that put you off. This is a great track!!

The video sees them looking very rock / indie in some sort of warehouse, with "little shocks" visible behind them as electricity flows from a conduit. The Kaiser Chiefs rock and this video is beyond cool.

The Future is Medieval was their fourth studio album, released in 2011. The video to 'Little Shocks' was released just before the album as a bit of teaser.

The lyrics are interesting 'And all these little shocks, I'll be riding my imaginary dynamo,I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't, I wish I could have you just a little bit more just a little bit more of your time'.

Its a much more gutsy, rock number than some of their softer songs. Lots of drums and a real strong beat give this a real edge. I'm surprised it didn't reach higher, as its a great song.

So there we have day 3 of my week with The Kaiser Chiefs. Go and have a listen and let me know what you think. You can check out more of my choices over at My Music page - just click here. Happy listening :)

I confess - I am watching BB!!

Ok I admit it - I am watching Big Brother again. I can't say its something to be particularly proud of, but it does hook you in. My other half is obsessed with it, so I don't have much choice but to watch it. I am secretly enjoying it though if I'm honest!

Now last night, it was particularly mean, even by Big Brother's standards. I mean come on - taunting them with cakes when they were all starving!! That's beyond cruel.

They are a real strange mix this year and they don't seem to be bonding very well at all. Its like watching some sort of social experiment to be honest, but I can't imagine it being a normal experience being stuck in a house like that with a load of strangers!!

I shall continue to watch it, as I am secretly hooked. Oh the shame of it!! :)

  • deep squat and jump - 3 x 20 reps

I've made a good start :)

Gosh what a shocker that weigh in was this morning!! Still can't quite believe it, but it got me to the gym this evening that's for sure!!

I ran for 1 1/2 miles, burning 188 cals, with a 10 cal warm up. I then walked on an incline for 52 cals. Followed by 100 cals on the stepper and 50 cals on the cross trainer. 400 cals burned in total.

I had already walked quite a bit today too, so up to 14,000 steps which is great. I've eaten healthily and laid off the carbs this evening. I opted for veg - cauli, broccoli, carrots and courgettes with quorn fillets. My stomach isn't half gurgling now though!!

If I can do this everyday, I can crack it. Good start and hoping for a drop on those scales tomorrow!!

I go to London on Sunday- it would be fab to get a few pounds shifted first!! :)

New Single of the Week - OMI - Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)

My new single of the week is the brilliant 'Cheerleader' by OMI (the Felix Jaehn Remix).

Apparently this was first released back in 2012, but its this latest remixed version that's lit up the charts giving it a number 1 spot in the UK singles chart, amongst others!

OMI is a Jamaican singer - real name Omar Samuel Pasley. This song definitely has more than a subtle hint of reggae to it. Its a really summer vibe - think relaxing by the beach, gently swaying to the beat.

The video is equally summer time. Blue seas, blue skies - pretty girls, and dancing. Its totally chillaxed this song.

This is not just a great summer song, its also a love song. The lyrics are so lovely 'She gives me love and affection, baby did I mention, you're the only girl for me, no I don't need a next one'. Then it finishes with 'Now all that's left to do is just for me to pop the question'.

All in all this is a real feel good song. Its already a huge hit, but I can see this getting plenty more airplay over the summer months. If you haven't heard it, go take a listen and let me know what you think.

My single of the week #21 - Taylor Swift - Shake It Off - How did it do?

My single of the week number 21 was Taylor Swift - Shake it Off. How did it do in the charts?

Day Two of My Week with The Kaiser Chiefs - Coming Home

Day two of my week with The Kaiser Chiefs and today its 'Coming Home'.

I heard this song for the first time driving home back in 2014. Initially, I wasn't sure about it. Then I heard it played again and it had me hooked.

It was the lead single from their 2014 album, Education, Education, Education and War which is also their fifth album no less. It reached number 31 in the UK singles chart.

Back to the song. It kicks in with a sort of eighties musical vibe, but then Ricky Wilson kicks in with his stunning and distinctive voice. This is an anthem. It's much more rock than some of their previous releases, but its still got their indie vibe. The notes Ricky hits here are immensely satisfying, and this is a real sing along - you will find yourself singing "i'm coming home" along with him. Its packed with guitars and drums and its powerful.

The video is brilliant too. Ricky, looking bashed about, grins as he runs towards you. He is on a path, in what is clearly the British countryside walking along, sometimes giving some moves, sometimes a little skip, but walking onwards singing that he is going to write it all down and that he is coming home.

He passes an assortment of folks, has a cup of tea, finally ending up sitting in deck chairs at the end of his walk. Presumably the others are the rest of the band - 5 of them in total. The song plays out with them sitting down. Its got a bit of a comic feel to it, and doesn't half remind of the video to U2's the Sweetest Thing.

So more about the Kaisers - Ricky on lead vocals, as I have said. Then we have Andrew White on guitar, bassist Simon Rix, Nick Baines on keyboard and Vijay Mistry, their new drummer.

This is an absolute must listen. Its a keeper. Kaisers back to their best here. Go and have a listen and let me know what you think.  I love this and there we have it - Day 2 done.

My Baby Bird Rescue!

My good deed for the day - I have rescued a baby Thrush that decided to do a kamikaze flight into the living room window. We were sitting in the lounge, when we heard a bang. I rushed to the window and there it was - a fluffy baby Thrush on the floor lying on its side.

I sprinted out in my PJ's and it was still lying there. It seemed to be breathing, so I fetched a tea towel and gently placed it over the little thing. I wrapped it up and picked it up. I could feel its little heart beating, so I held it to me so it was warm and stroked its head. Its little beak kept opening and closing, and I thought it was a goner.

Then it raised its head a little bit and opened it eyes. I loosened the tea towel, but it didn't fly off. I gently placed it onto the lawn, and it kind of just lay there. So I unwrapped it completely, and just kept stroking it. I checked its wings and its head, and I couldn't see anything so it appeared to have survived. Then it stood up on it legs, but it still made no attempts to move.

Its beak was opening and closing again, and I could hear another Thrush somewhere in the garden, warbling away. I backed away, but still it didn't move. I didn't dare leave it there like that all defenseless. I knelt down, at arms length, and gently nudged it.

It took a tentative step forward. I stroked it again, and it seemed quite happy about it. I then gave it a another little nudge, and off he went!! Flew up into the tree. I was so relieved!!

I've checked the garden several times since, and its not fallen anywhere that I can see so I think he's ok. I have rescued a baby Thrush. Feeling very happy with myself now! :)

Day 1 of My Week with The Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot

Day 1 of my week with The Kaiser Chiefs and to kick us off its the classic 'I Predict A Riot'.

'I Predict A Riot' was the second single from their debut album 'Employment'. It was released in 2004, but was then re-released in 2005. It reached number 9 in the UK singles chart on its second outing.

This song is full of energy and is very rock come indie. Ricky Wilson sounds effortlessly cool on this as he builds up to the crescendo as the song goes up in key towards the end.

I love the anthemic feel of this track and how it so strongly references their Northern roots. The lyrics are brilliant "watching the people get lairy, its not very pretty I tell thee". Then "girls scrabble round with no clothes on, to borrow a pound for a condom, if it wasn't for chip fat they'd be frozen". I mean does it get any classier than that? Fabulous!

The accompanying video sees the band looking very young, and very different to how they look nowadays, particularly Ricky!! It shows them on stage in what appears to be some sort of underground gig. They are rocking it, and the crowd are going mad for it. You see them all going into the club with pillows, and as Ricky sings the line 'I predict a riot'  an epic scale pillow fight breaks out with feathers everywhere. Pretty cool really!!

So there we have it - Day 1. Classic song. If you can't wait for Day 2 then go and check out My Music page here where you will find all my previous choices and singles of the week! Happy listening :)

My Week with The Kaiser Chiefs

I have chosen to spend my next week with The Kaiser Chiefs. But before we begin, lets get to know more about them.

First off they come from Leeds. They are a homegrown UK band best described as a bit indie a bit rock, and in my humble opinion, a lot great!!

Here is why I love finding out more about the background of bands and artists - I always find out some interesting details I never knew or had forgotten about. The Kaiser Chiefs formed in 2000, but they weren't originally known by that name. They called themselves Parva.

In 2003, after releasing one album as Parva, they reformed and renamed to The Kaiser Chiefs. A very wise move! The original line up was Ricky Wilson on lead vocals, Andrew White on bass, Nick Baines on keyboard and Nick Hodgson on drums. Of the original 4 only the drummer has changed, now being Vijay Mistry.

They released their first album as The Kaiser Chiefs in 2005. 'Employment' was a massive hit and established them on the indie rock scene in a big way. It reached number 2 in the UK album charts. It was nominated for a whole host of music industry accolades. It spawned the hit singles 'Oh My God', 'I Predict a Riot', 'Everyday I love you less and less' and 'Modern Way'.

Their second album, 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob' was released in 2007. It reached number 1 in the UK albums chart. The lead single 'Ruby' was followed by 'Everything is average Nowadays' and 'The Angry Mob'. More rock inspired as an album, once again, the singles were hits and The Kaisers were no longer the new boys in town.

'Off With Their Heads' was their third album and was released in 2008. This one reached number 2 in the UK album chart. The first single to be released was 'Never Miss A Beat', followed by 'Good Days, Bad Days'.

The band then took a 2 year hiatus before coming back with album number 4 in 2011. 'The Future is Medieval' reached number 10 in the UK album chart. 'Little Shocks' the first single from the album was the biggest hit taken from this 4th album.

In 2012, they released their first compilation album 'Souvenir'. In 2014 they released album number 5 'Education, Education, Education and War. This was the first album without original drummer Hodgson, who left and was replaced by Mistry. Once again they hit the top spot in the UK album chart. 'Bows and Arrows'  was the lead single, following by 'Coming Home'.

Throughout their time, they have toured, done Festivals, supported other bands such as U2 and been continuously recognized by the music industry for their work. Many times Platinum, appearing on talk shows and performing live has become their staple. They are great live. I can vouch for that.

Ricky Wilson, the front man, is one of the judges on TV program "The Voice". What I didn't know is that behind his quirky style and great voice, is a man who has an Honours Degree in Graphic Art and Design and who was previously a teacher.

The Kaisers are bold, they are fearless, they are talented and they are unique. I am looking forward to my week with this great British band. Day 1 coming soon - make sure you check back or you can catch more of My Music over at My Music page - just click here. :)

Last night's PT

It was back to PT last night after a week's break. The sudden realisation that its only 9 weeks until hols hit home, so off I trotted.

Last night he put me through this:

  • 5 min run on treadmill
  • Dead lifts with weights and bar - 3 sets of 15 with 2 orange weights each end
  • Side squats and skip up and down the studio - 3 x 2 lengths

  • 2 min run on treadmill
  • Forward lunges with weight bar - 3 sets of 15

It was quite a session and I was dripping with sweat. The best feeling ever is when its all over, and I'm having a lovely hot shower. Washing that salty sweat away is the best feeling ever!!

This week's fabulous single of the week is Florence and the Machine with 'Ship to Wreck'.
