Wednesday :)

The weather forecast before we left said it was cloudy and a bit rainy Monday, and that would continue into Tuesday.

Now it is Wednesday. That means it should be sunny!! Hoping for sunny - hip hip hooray!! To be honest though, I don't care if it is raining. It will be much warmer here than in our cold house with no boiler!!

Sunny Wednesday would be nice though. Here's hoping!! :)

Monday, 23 March 2015

All packed and ready to go :)

Gosh I am exhausted!! I've had such a busy day! Had to do a few hours of work, plus a few ebay items to wrap and send in the post. Then a spray tan, amidst taking madam to school and picking her up again.

In amongst all this, the tiny task of packing!! I have literally just sat down for the first time since 7am this morning!! I just have a few items of make up to pack once I'm showered in the morning, then I am done. At last.

Bit nervous about tomorrow if I'm honest. Not been to Marrakesh before and I'm a mix of excited and nervous. I always get nervous about the weight of my suitcase - this is nothing new. And I check my passport about twenty thousand times convinced its going to have leapt from the bag and done a run for freedom!!

But I am packed. I am having a glass of wine, and about to have my tea. I just want to be there now - this is the part I do not like! :)

Day 5 of My Week with The Killers - Human

Day 5 of my week with The Killers and today its 'Human'.

'Human' was the first single from their third albym 'Day & Age' in 2009.

This is a very 80's sounding song with more than a nod to the greats like New Order, but with just enough sass and edge to make it modern. More of a dance song than rock, heading them into more alt rock really.

Its still largely guitars, but its got a synthesizer electronic sound to it. Brandon Flowers sounds beautiful on this, and its a lot softer and gentler than their previous output. He has such a great voice, and it just perfectly suits the tone of this uplifting song.

The video features the band out in the desert with their instruments and stage gear. It looks hot but they look cool. Flowers in a black jacket with flamboyant feathers on the shoulders, and the rest of the band just looking like a rock band, and just cool as. At one point they hold up a portrait of themselves in place of their heads.

'Human' reached number 3 in the UK singles chart, giving them a big hit. There was some confusion though over the lyrics. Namely the bit that goes "Are we human, or are we dancer". Apparently some people thought he sang "denser" which doesn't make sense, but it spawned a debate over what the song means. He quite clearly says dancer not denser, so goodness knows what that was all about!!

Another great song from this band, and there we have day 5. If you can't wait for day 6, or if you missed days 1-4 you can find them over at My Music page along with loads more - just click here. Happy listening :)

Lovely Birthday so far :)

What a birthday! Starting off this morning, lots of lovely birthday messages, then off to the beauty salon for leg wax followed by having my nails done (deep scarlet - saucy!).

From there, it was home for a bite to eat, and a visit from my parents. Then some of my family rang me, and I opened some presents. The main one from my mum and dad being a new carpet which I have yet to pick! Lots of things - smelly candles, a bear, a bottle of wine - lovely.

Next, it was a visit to my local spa for a body scrub. Wow. My skin felt so smooth and lovely, and a powerful hot shower at the spa soon had me emerging baby soft!

I came home to my other half and step daughter, opened all my cards - had loads this year! Then it was time for my presents off them. Off G and my father in law, it was a pair of Pandora earrings. Off the other half, it was a Pandora ring!!

I am so happy! I didn't think he would get me anything so expensive!! I'm feeling very loved and special indeed. Happy Birthday me! :)

Happy Birthday to Me :)

Now it is my birthday. 39 years on this earth. Happy Birthday to me :)

Hope today is a good day and that I do not need a new boiler!

Day 4 of My Week with The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It

Day 4 of my week with The Killers and today its 'Smile Like You Mean It'.

'Smile Like You Mean It' was released as a single in 2004. It was taken from their debut album 'Hot Fuss' which was also released that year. It was the fourth single from the album.

This is such an amazing track. Its more melancholy than their earlier releases, and a more subdued pace, but its by far the most emotive. You can't hear this and feel nothing, it just seems to evoke something.

This song is full of synthesizer, drums and guitars and of course, Flower's vocals. In this he sounds earnest, and emotional, and just utterly draws you in. A true modern rock song this one, but not a ballad, not at all, its far more edgy and new, yet it does hark back to the sound of the 1980's and early 90's.

This video is The Killers doing a live performance. I couldn't find the official video anywhere authentic, but I can tell you about it. The video shows a house empty, then with people in it, with the band walking through it, seemingly remembering previous happy times. The people there don't seem to notice them. Its quite an emotional video, and it ends where the people from the past look into the camera, whilst the band fades away.

'Smile Like You Mean It' reached number 11 on the UK singles chart. The lyrics are really catchy, and thought provoking. 'someone is playing a game, in the house that I grew up in, and someone will drive her around, down the same streets that I did'. It makes me think of someone who has died, or a first love. Its really emotional, but its the music and his voice as well as the lyrics - its just so powerful.

I think this is The Killers at their best. If you can't wait for day 5 then you can check out My Music page here for loads more to keep you going. Happy listening :)

Disaster strikes - no heating :(

I've been to work, then the gym for PT and then home. Disaster has struck though. My other half greeted me with the news that the boiler has konked (actual technical term there).

As of yet, its unclear if its terminal or a minor op, but either way, its not good news. Certainly not good news, not under any circumstances, and specifically not the circumstances when the next day is my birthday!!

Specifically not the circumstances when I'm going on holiday in 3 days! I'm stressing my head off right now. Our heating engineer can't come out until tomorrow, so its an anxious night for us all, waiting to see if the news is going to be bad, very bad, or terrible awfully bad.

On such a night as this, you might forgive me for indulging in a glass (bottle) of wine, but I shall attempt not to give into temptation. It won't fix my boiler, but it might make me look like one!!

Please don't be terminal boiler. Please!!

Total Eclipse ( no puns please!)

It's a total eclipse this morning. No not that song the real thing! Starting in 20 mins it will take about an hour.

Here's hoping for clear skies. Don't miss it but be careful with your eyes :)

Day 3 of My Week with The Killers - Read My Mind

Day 3 of my week with The Killers and today its 'Read My Mind'.

'Read My Mind' was released in 2007. It was the third single from their second album 'Sam's Town' which was released in 2006.

This is another Killers style rock song - lots of synth, guitars and drums with Brandon Flowers on vocals. This one though, is very anthemic and big.

The video to this song is brilliant. It was shot in Tokyo and features an Oriental Elvis, the band dressed as Geisha's, and having fun on various random bicycles!! Its quite a funny video, clearly not really a serious video - just them enjoying themselves, with Flowers sporting a rather fetching moustache!

'Read My Mind' reached number 15 on the UK singles chart. Not their biggest hit, but not bad for the third single from an album!

This is such a lyrically great song. My favourite line comes near the end when Flowers sings "The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun when you read my mind". Such clever words, written by Flowers himself.

There we have it - Day 3 'Read my Mind'. Go have a listen and let me know what you think.

If you can't wait for day 4, you can check out Days 1 & 2 plus loads more over at My Music page - just click here. Happy listening :)

Half way through the 3 day diet and I'm starving!!

I gave in this morning and weighed myself. I couldn't help it! The scales were just there, on the floor, begging me to weigh in. So I did.

I was pleased that they had gone ever so slightly down - by 0.4 of a pound, but still a loss. This is good news, as it was the morning of the first day of the 3 day diet, whereas usually its up from the non 3 day diet days!

So, today is day 2 of the 3 day diet, so logically, the scales should dip tomorrow, then dip again Saturday. That's the logic anyway. Remains to be seen if it happens, but I would be so pleased if I could get under that half stone mark for my birthday on Saturday.

I would then be just pounds off target. I need to exercise serious restraint this weekend. Its my birthday Saturday, and a christening Sunday, both of which would ordinarily be an excuse to pig out. Well not this weekend I am not, not this close to hols!!

Still aiming for another 5lbs by Tuesday if I possibly can, but will be more than happy with 3!

I am absolutely starving right now, but I am determined to ride it out. Not long to go now. If I can be good for the next 4 days, I've cracked it.

4 days. 4 days of being hungry. Its only 4 days!! I can do this :)

My Top 10s - nom nom nom

Top 10's
Biscuits
Cake
Chocolate Bars
Jelly Sweeties
Wine
Cheese
Ice-cream flavours

6 sleeps until cake!! (and wine)

Its just 6 more sleeps until I'm off on my hols. I am dieting like a crazy thing - back on the 3 day (starvation) diet. Off the wine, off the carbs pretty much and permanently hungry!

My latest way to combat not eating it, is to write about it (see my top 10 this evening - ice-cream!)

Back to the count down. In 6 more sleeps, I shall be having a piece of cake, possibly a cup cake, but something absolutely yummy as the diet shall temporarily be over with for a week.

I shall be having wine and cake, and not going to the gym, and relaxing - ahh bliss. 6 more sleeps.

Granted, when I return from my hols, no doubt the scales will be bulging, but frankly it shall be worth it. I shall eat, drink and be merry and not care a jot!! Looking forward to it sooo much. I shall worry about the post hol diet when I get back.

PT is booked to resume on the 9th April, so I shall worry about it then and not before. Life is too short to be permanently denied the good things in life, and no fears on that front for me next week I guarantee you!!

6 more sleeps! Whoop!! :)

3 sleeps until wine ... I mean my birthday!

3 more sleeps until I can have a beloved glass of vino. I made a promise not to drink any wine until the 21st and its my birthday present to myself to have just one as a treat.

Its only a few days before my holiday, so it will just be the one, but my god I am looking forward to it!! Just the look of it in the glass, the taste of that first sip. Oh my how I have missed it!!

3 more sleeps. Just 3 more sleeps until I am 39, and until I can have that longed for glass of the good stuff!!

I am like a kid at Disneyland - excited, giddy and nervous with anticipation!! 3 to go then :)

Monday night's PT - ow ow ow!!

Monday night was PT. I managed to pull myself by swinging a heavy kettle bell the wrong way which added to the pleasure!! This is what he put me through this session:

  • Cross trainer sprints
  • 40 x squats x 4 sets
  • 2 minute hill sprint x 4 sets
  • 25 x squats
  • 3 min hill sprint
  • Moving side squats up and down the studio
  • Walking lunges
  • Lunge with kettle bell (8kg) 4 x 30 reps
  • Squat with kettle bell (16kg) to floor 4 x 20 reps
  • Kettle bell swing (16kg) 4 x 15 reps
  • Single and double kettle bell swing 4 x 20 reps
  • 1 minute plank
  • 2 x 45 second plank
  • burpees - 3 x 10 reps
It was so hard. My legs hurt so much afterwards it was unreal. He knows I'm doing the 30 day squat challenge, so at least hes incorporating the squats into my session, but boy did I pull myself!! I felt such a birk honestly.

Everytime my form deviates from the right position I end up pulling my muscle! Its been better today, but I need to work out in the right position!! That will teach me won't it! :)

Day 2 of My Week with The Killers - Spaceman

Day 2 of my week with The Killers and today its 'Spaceman'.

'Spaceman' was released as a single in 2008. It was the second single taken from their third studio album Day & Age which was released the same year.

This wasn't one of their biggest hits - it peaked at number 40 in the UK singles chart. I think its really different though. Its still rock - all drums, guitar and keyboard, but yet again, its Flowers on vocals that makes it stand out.

The video can only be described as crazy. Flowers donned in a sort of red body suit with lots of flamboyant touches, namely feathers and spikes is at some sort of wedding cake like stand where everyone is dressed up and dancing. There is a big dinner table and a feast going on. Its very bright, very eccentric and features harpists of all things. As the camera pans out it seems the celebration is happening in the middle of a wide open space.

Its more dance than some of their earlier stuff, and a bit more 80's sounding but its a great record. It seems to be about an alien abduction experience. The lyrics refer to being taken from your bed and having your blood type taken before they cut you open. Lovely stuff!!

So The Killers and the voices they hear at night produced another great song with 'Spaceman'. Its weird and brilliant, so go take a listen and let me know what you think of it.

If you cant wait for Day 3, you can check out My Music page here. Happy listening :)

Be there this time next week :)

Getting very excited now. Very excited indeed!! Today, I checked in online because it is now just 7 days until we go on our holidays!!

I've never checked in online before. I was a bit worried what you had to do. As it turns out, its pretty straight forward. The computer automatically assigns you two seats together, you print your boarding passes and thats it, your done. Simples as they say.

So I have my boarding passes printed for there and back, with the same seat numbers for the return flight which I think is kind of cool actually. No fuss, no messing around asking for window seats - we have a window seat already!!

Last year, I paid to choose our seats, but when I looked at the seats already booked, there wasn't much to choose from as it seems more and more people are choosing them and paying. If I need the extra leg room, I probably would do, but its only a short haul, so it should be fine.

My other half has just been busy organising his duty free purchases, and has managed to get me a £5 off voucher to use which is fab as I always buy perfume. Always. Its like my airport ritual!!

This time next week, it will be our first night there. I'm so excited now!! Back on the 3 day diet tomorrow for the last effort, but nearly there now. Whoop! :)

283 Sleeps 'til Christmas!!

I was just checking on how many days it was until my July holiday, and I came across a Christmas countdown.

Did you know its just 283 sleeps until Christmas is here again? How scary is that fact fans? This year I resolve to be more organised.

I always end up in some sort of last minute frenzy. Well not this year!! I have plans already to get myself in control this time around.

283 sleeps though. It will be here before we know it!! Thought I'd share that with you! Enjoy :)

My Top 10's so far - yum!

Top 10's
Biscuits
Cake
Chocolate Bars
Jelly Sweeties
Wine
Cheese

You may have noticed something of a theme here in that my top 10's are food and drink related. This is because I am on a diet, so the majority of things on these lists, are not on my list at the moment!!

I love food and I like a drink, so I am enjoying listing my top 10 favourites. Next up is my Top 10 spirits!!

As I said, there is a definite theme here!! :)

Happy St Patricks Day to You

Happy St Patricks Day to everyone out there. I usually celebrate with the obligatory Guinness but its not the most diet friendly tipple, so have given that a miss this time. (Apologies to all the Guinness afficionados).

So what have you done to celebrate this great green day? Are you celebrating as we speak?

Well, whatever you are doing, may the luck of the Irish be with you this fine day.

Happy St Paddys one and all :)

Don't Miss My Single of the Week - Sea Creatures - Soak

Don't miss this week's single of the week 'Sea Creatures' by fabulous new artist Soak.

Such a beautiful song, with such thoughtful lyrics. Its an amazing song - take a listen, and let me know what you think.

Day 1 of My Week with The Killers - Mr Brightside

Day 1 of my week with The Killers and for my first choice its 'Mr Brightside'.

'Mr Brightside' was the debut single from The Killers. It was the first single from their debut album 'Hot Fuss' which was released in 2004.

The album smashed to the top of the UK album charts, and this single peaked at number 10 in the UK singles chart.

This is such a brilliant song. I haven't heard it for some time now, but its one of those songs that still sounds distinct, recognisable and fresh. Its a song that also won lots of acclaim and recognition - its won awards for the best song of the decade, best track and been recognised by XFM, NME, various radio and TV to name but a few. Yes, its that good.

'Mr Brightside' is a rock song. It kicks straight in with that distinctive piano/keyboard tinkling that continues through it. The guitars kick in, then the drums and builds as Flowers vocals come in with the fabulous lyrics "coming out of my cage, and I've been doing just fine".

The video, well one of 2 videos this being the official one, is all ladies made up like madams a la Moulin Rouge style. They dance whilst the men look on, including Brandon who is watching whilst singing. Clearly this song is about being unfaithful, as this plays out with none other than Eric Roberts starring as the other man, whilst the lady flirts about between him and Flowers.

Apparently the song is based around an unfaithful ex of Flowers. The lyrics continue "It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this". My particular favourite is the line "jealousy, turning saints into the sea, swimming through sick lullabies, choking on your alibis". Its just so clever, and he sings it with such force, such angst, it just sweeps you up.

This song truly put The Killers on the map. For a debut single, its just perfect, and I don't believe it could have been bettered. It still sounds absolutely amazing.

I suggest you go and take a listen to this, and play it loud as its just about as good as it gets this one. Let me know if you enjoyed it, and happy listening. :)

My Week with The Killers begins

I have chosen to spend my next week with The Killers. I shall choose 7 songs, 1 per day, and review each one. Then I shall decide which was my favourite. But before we begin, lets take a closer look at the band and the music shall we?

The Killers are a four piece American indie rock band. Actually they come from Las Vegas! The band consist of Brandon Flowers on lead vocals and keyboard, Dave Keuning on guitar and backing vocals, Mark Stoermer on bass and backing vocals and Ronnie Vannucci Jr on drums and percussion.

Brandon Flowers was already in a band, but when he was ejected from his band back in 2001, he decided to form his own! By 2002 The Killers had their current line up and had started to play and write together.

In 2003 they were signed to British label Lizard King Records. 2003 also saw them release their first single 'Mr Brightside'. I think its fair to say it was a bit of a success and later that year they signed for another record label - Island Def Jam.

Their debut album 'Hot Fuss' was released in 2004. It was a huge success, reaching the number 1 spot in the UK album chart, and it was around forever. It got lots of critical acclaim including best new band awards, grammy nominations and an NME award. Hot Fuss was such a mind blowing album. It was slow, fast, hard hitting and powerful, but somehow different.

Their second album 'Sam's Town' was released in 2006. Once again the second album was a success, reaching the number 1 spot in the UK album chart. It had mixed reviews from critics though, but still the band were winning awards - Brits and NME.

In 2007 they released a sort of compilation album called 'Sawdust'. It was mainly B-sides and unreleased material.

Their third album was released in 2008. 'Day & Age' was another number 1 in the UK albums chart. This one was described as more playful, and it features lots of unusual instruments - sax, steel drums - you name it!  After the album tour, they went on a break for a little while.

They returned with the release of their fourth album in 2012. 'Battle Born' also reached the number 1 spot in the UK album chart. They then released a greatest hits compilation album 'Direct Hit's in 2013, ten years on from their debut album.

The Killers have caused quite a stir over the years both with their music and their opinions, with Brandon in particular being quite the flamboyant character of the group. He has also had success as a solo artist with his album 'Flamingo' which he released in 2010 and also hit the number 1 spot here in the UK.

In total they have released 4 albums, 2 compilation albums and 18 singles. I've actually seen them live at the V Festival quite a few years ago, and they were fantastic. Really looking forward to listening to their output over the next week.

Pop back tomorrow for my first choice, or if you can't wait, you can see all my previous choices over at My Music page - just click here. :)

Less than a week to my birthday :(

It's my birthday next Saturday. That means its not even a week away now. I always have mixed feelings about my birthday. I mean, yes its nice to celebrate but then again, its another year of your life gone.

This year I shall be 39. That means the big 4-0 is looming large over the horizon. Something else I have mixed feelings about! I like being a 30-something. Even 39 I can handle, bu 40?

I have an ever growing list of things to do before I'm 40, but I have to be realistic. Its only a year and 6 days away, and short of a lotto win, and a big win at that, I won't have the time and the pennies to do everything on the list!!

I would have to pack in work and go travelling for the next 6 months and that's not going to happen! More's the pity - I would love to buggar off and go travelling for 6 months!

So, birthday next Saturday. No plans as such - well, not celebration plans. I am being waxed at 10.30am, having my nails done at 1pm, and a body scrub at my local spa at 4pm. So its kind of a pampering day for me.

In the evening I shall be having a quiet one, as firstly, I'm watching what I eat and drink, and secondly we have to get up early and go to a christening the next day.

So that's my birthday for this year. A day of pampering, probably also packing for my hols and a quiet one with my other half and step daughter. Quite nice actually - maybe I will allow myself one glass of wine too!!

What I'm Watching This Week

  • The Following. Finally made it to the end of Season 2. The finale was amazing. So that's all the boxsets caught up with, and now onto the first episode of Season 3 which is currently airing. The opening episode sees the preparations for Joe Carol's execution and to say its a nerve wracking opener would be an understatement!
  • Fortitude.  This series gets ever more intriguing. Starting off, I thought it was going to be pretty intense, but it seems that its even more complex than first impressions. One murder was shocking, but now it seems that there is a sort of madness affecting folk and turning them into murdering lunatics! Not a clue why its happening, but its bloody brilliant to watch!!
  • Come Dine With Me. I love this program. I watched quite a few episodes this week. It just makes me smile - they go on a program like this but can't cook and have no manners!! What on earth are they thinking? Bitching, backbiting, sarcasm - its pure brilliance. The guy who does the commentary steals the show though. So witty it just takes the show to a new level.
  • Coronation Street. Will Gavin / Andy be revealed? What a dramatic turn of events! A 13 year old pregnancy is bound to cause ruptions on the cobbles. David looks set to battle for custody of Max, but just where is Kylie? Sean has gone off on one at Emily and been dumped by the vicar. Loving Ilene joining online dating!! Corrie at its best this week.
  • Johnathan Ross Show starring Madonna. The Queen of Pop is the sole guest on this evening's show. Talking about That Fall. What a career this woman has had. I love Madonna.

My single of the week #16 - Rixton - Me and My Broken Heart - how did it do?

Don't Miss my Single of the Week - Soak - Sea Creatures

Don't miss this week's single of the week 'Sea Creatures' by fabulous new artist Soak.

Such a beautiful song, with such thoughtful lyrics. Its an amazing song - take a listen, and let me know what you think.

You can see all my singles of the week over at My Music page - just click here. :)

Coming Up - My Next Week is with The Killers

For my next "My Week With" I am spending it with The Killers.

Later today I shall start to take a look at the band, where they are from, what they have done, how long they have been going, just to get to know them better before I spend a week with them.

I shall then choose 7 songs, one for each day of my week then review them and decide which was my favourite.

Looking forward to this - check back later when I look more closely at this great band. If you can't wait, you can see all my previous choices over at My Music page - just click here :)

Lazy Saturday :)

Last lazy Saturday for a few weeks and am enjoying it. Still sitting here is my dressing gown!! There is a reason - I have had a spray tan, so will be showering and dressing shortly- I'm not that bad!!

When I say lazy, I mean not charging about like a headless chicken. I am busy in a way. I'm writing this blog post for example, and am doing a bit of comping. I'm checking my emails, listing a couple of things on ebay and watching the new Godzilla movie.

Its mothering sunday tomorrow, so I will be heading out to get my mum's gift, but that is it for today in terms of going and doing anything.

I am largely living room based for the afternoon, and enjoying every second!! Its grey outside anyway and not exactly inspiring me to want to go and do. If it was bright and sunny I would want to be outside, but not today. Nope.

What are you up to today? :)

Pre-holiday preps underway

With just one week and 3 days to go, the pre-holiday preparations are well underway now.

This week saw me go to back to back PT sessions on Thursday and Friday. That was intense, but I keep thinking how much better I will feel, psychologically, if I know I made the maximum pre hols efforts.

My weight is now down to 12 stone 10lbs. That means I have lost exactly 2 stones since 5th January. That's pretty damned good, but I want a few more off before I go.

So, I am doing the 3 day diet as 3 days on 1 day off until hols. Yesterday was a free day, so today its the first day of the 3 day diet again. This is going to be hard, especially as its weekend, but I don't mind being hungry at this point. Its just 10 more days, well, 9 after today to survive. I can do that.

Last night, after the gym, I had my trial spray tan. I haven't used this mobile lady before, so wanted to see what the tan was like. Going to shower it off shortly - have left it on a bit longer to see how it looks.

Monday coming will be PT again, then Thursday its my haircut. Cover up those pesky few greys now sneaking through (to be fair, I am 39 a week today so doing well on that front).

Friday is PT again - last one before hols. Saturday, my birthday, will see me being waxed at 10.30am followed by having my nails done. At 4pm its a body scrub at my local health spa.

Sunday I have a christening to go to, then Monday its time for my pre-holiday spray tan at 1pm. I was going to get my eyelashes done, but I'm going to give that a miss this time.

At some point, I need to pack too. Doing the last bit of shopping tomorrow - sun cream etc... then will probably start packing mid week.

I'm hoping to drop another 4-5 pounds, which will put me at 12 stone 5-6 which is a bit heavier than I had hoped for, but still pretty damned good from a starting point of 14 stone 10 back on 5th Jan!!

I'm still going to have fun and enjoy my break, and to be honest, I'm enjoying the preps too, aside from feeling a bit hungry!! Even that is for a reason though, so I can live with that for a few days.

It will all be worth it when I'm by that pool! 1 week 3 days to go :)

25K blog views!!! Whoop!

Well lovelies today is a milestone. I have now had just over 25000 blog views. That's absolutely amazing, and I hope you enjoy my somewhat eclectic mix of diet ups and downs and my efforts to get fit, as well as food, music and travel, plus films and books that take my fancy!!

I enjoy writing, so I hope you find something you enjoy here and just enjoy life with me!

Big thanks to all of you and I hope to continue to entertain as much as possible. I love life, I really do. Even on a gloomy Saturday like today!!

Happy weekend and thanks again! xx

Tonight's PT

Tonight was PT again. Back to back sessions last night and tonight ( see last night's here) have pretty much knackered me to the point of exhaustion.

Tonight's hellish session consisted of:

  • walk to warm up
  • leg press - 4 sets of 40 reps
  • free squats - 4 sets of 30 reps
  • leg raise with knee raise on 2 step boxes - 2 x 15 on each leg
  • jumping lunge with TRX - 2 x 30 reps
  • leg raise with knee raise on 2 step boxes & weight ball - 1 x 12 reps
  • jumping lunge with TRX - 1 x 30 reps
  • squats standing on 2 step boxes with kettle bell - 3 x 20 reps
  • jumping lunge with TRX - 3 x 30 reps
  • 1km run on treadmill
  • sitting rope pull 30 seconds on 10 seconds off x 6 reps
  • 8 x burpees
  • standing rope pull 30 seconds on 10 seconds off x 6 reps
  • 8 x burpees
  • 0.25 mile run to finish
I am aching everywhere right now! I have decided to just have a couple of small whiskys this evening - much less than I usually do of a weekend evening, and really just to try and reduce the aching and actually get some sleep!

I am feeling stronger and fitter though, so here's hoping the scales are kind to me in the morning! :)

I think its time for something savoury next. Yum :)

My New Single of the Week - Soak - Sea Creatures

My new single of the week is the beautiful 'Sea Creatures' by Soak.

Soak is actually an 18 year old young woman from Northern Ireland. Her real name is Bridie Monds-Watson and she comes from Derry.

I heard this played on Radio 1 and it instantly captivated me. She has this haunting voice, so innocent and gorgeous. I first thought it was Chvrches then quickly realised it wasn't but she has a similar sounding voice.

The song is mainly just backed by piano, and its very bare - just her voice and the lyrics in a lovely melody, thats really catchy. Its hard to pin down into a category - a bit pop, a bit folk, very soulful in a teenage "life is scary" kind of way.

The video actually shocked me. Firstly as I didn't envisage how she looks - she is very young indeed, very short hair, very innocent looking. Then the video itself shocked me. She's there, chilling out, skateboarding but it ends in tragedy. Clearly a darker song than it sounds.

Soak has her debut album scheduled for later this year. The album is to be titled 'Before We Forgot How to Dream". The single 'Sea Creatures' was released in Jan 2015, but I've only recently heard it, so I think its a bit of a slow burner.

This is a song that's all about being adolescent and living lifes ups and downs for the first time. She seems to write as if this is all such an uncertain existence, which it is when you are young. Its refreshing to hear such honesty.

Dark core or not, this is a beautiful, well written, well produced and well sung song. Absolutely love it. You must take a listen. Let me know what you think.

You can check out my previous singles of the week here. :)

Tonights PT - another one done

Off to PT I went this evening. I didn't go on Monday, so its back to back again tonight and tomorrow night unfortunately! This, in addition to the 30 day squat challenge I'm working through (155 squats today!!) is pretty much as intense as it gets!!

So tonight's session consisted of:

  • Cross trainer - 400m sprints x 4 sets
  • One handed dumb-bell double dip weight lift - 10 on each arm x 4 sets
  • Circuit made up of:
    • 8 kettle bell swings
    • 8 step box burpees
    • 8 leg raise / arm raise abs
    • 200m hill run
  • 6 sets of the above circuits in total
  • TRX work - chest press - 15 x 3 sets
  • TRX work - bicep pull - 15 x 3 sets
  • TRX work - alternating chest and bicep work - 20 reps
  • TRX work - side pull - 3 x 10 on each arm
He commented that he was keeping my legs fresh for tomorrow. That's something to look forward to isn't it! No, no it is not. Another one done though, one closer to holiday.

It will be worth it, as I am definitely toning up now, its just such hard work!! :)

150 Squats today - 85 done :)

Today on my 30 day squat challenge the target is 150 squats. I'm up to 85 so far, so that leaves 65 squats to go.

I'm starting to split them up now, as it doesn't half burn your thighs! This morning I did 55 of them, and have just completed another 30 taking me to 85.

In about half an hour I will do another 20, then roughly every half hour I will add a few more. Its so hard but I want a motivation for squats behind. I want to be toned.

I want to look fit and healthy, and that doesn't come easy. It has to be hard work or everyone would look amazing, and lets face it, we don't. Well, I don't anyway, so I need to work at it.

65 squats to go. Then it goes up tomorrow, up again Friday, then finally a rest day on a rest day if that makes sense. My flipping rest day keeps landing on a gym day, or worse still a PT day, which is not a rest!!

Bring on the rest day. Can't wait. :)

13 days to go - this is the plan

I have 13 days until my holiday. I have to make a real effort now. I dropped below the 13 stone mark on Saturday, but its nudged back over again now. So here is the plan

Tuesday 10th March - Day 1 of 3 day Diet (squat challenge rest day)
Wednesday 11th March - Day 2 of 3 day Diet and 30 day squat challenge
Thursday 12th March - Day 3 of 3 day Diet, 30 day squat challenge and PT session
Friday 13th March - 30 day squat challenge and PT session
Saturday 14th March - Day 1 of 3 day diet - 30 day squat challenge
Sunday 15th March - Day 2 of 3 day diet, 30 day squat challenge and gym session
Monday 16th March - Day 3 of 3 day diet, 30 day squat challenge and PT session
Tuesday 17th March - (squat challenge rest day) Gym session
Wednesday 18th March - Day 1 of 3 day diet, 30 day squat challenge
Thursday 19th March - Day 2 of 3 day diet, 30 day squat challenge and gym session
Friday 20th March - Day 3 of 3 day diet, 30 day squat challenge and PT session
Saturday 21st March (squat challenge rest day) - rest day as my Birthday!
Sunday 22nd March - Day 1 of 3 day diet, 30 day squat challenge
Monday 23rd March - Day 2 of 3 day diet, 30 day squat challenge

There we have it. 3 day diet - 3 days on, 1 day off from now until hols. Continue with the 30 day squat challenge right up until hols. PT sessions twice per week. Gym sessions in between.

As well as this, I shall be doing abs every morning, plus press ups and a little workout routine, and getting my steps up to 10,500 per day.

On my non 3 day diet days, I shall be sticking to around 1100-1200 cals - still low, otherwise it will just go back on.

I can stick this out for 13 days. It will be worth it when I'm that bit slimmer for hols :)
