Curry on its way - Happy New Year!!

We are staying in this evening. I am actually very pleased about that. Just posting a quick post now as our takeout curry has just been ordered and have cracked open the vino.

Happy New Year!

Lazy NY Eve

I'm having a relaxed and lazy one today. Cue face masks, lots of coffee and sitting around in my PJ's. Fabulous.

What are you doing for your NYE celebrations? I think for us its going to be a curry and some vino. I don't really like going out on NYE - all that holding hands with strangers doing Auld Lang Syne - its not for me!!

so sick of over indulgence, christmas decorations and christmas music!!

I've reached that point of the festivities now, when actually, all I want is a bit of normality.

I'm over indulged, over eaten, over drunk, over excited and all in all, over done!! Now, I want a break from feeling fat and bloated, sluggish and unfit.

I'm quite sure that there are folks out there that keep fit over Christmas. I'm not one of them this year that is for sure!! I feel horrible.

I am looking forward to being healthy, going to the gym, and not feeling fat. Bring on the 5th Jan.

2014. The End.

Whatever happens in the world today, will be the last news of 2014. How amazing and scary and exciting and nerve wracking is that!!

The last day of 2014. Ever. So what are you doing to mark the occasion?

Tuesday, 30 December 2014

1 more sleep until New Year.

When I go to bed this evening, it will be my last night's sleep of 2014. When I wake up on Thursday,  it will be 2015. What a year!!!

Where does the time go?

We enjoyed some beautiful countryside and some amazing places.

My film review - Frozen

Wow. Lets just get it out there, let it out, set it free. Wow. I am 38 years old - clearly not the intended target market for this film. Frozen in case you are wondering is the film in question.

I've heard the songs of course. By gosh, you would have to be under a rock the past year if you had somehow avoided hearing either 'Let it Go' or 'Do you want to build a snowman'!

Frozen was released in 2013, but its taken me until now to watch it. Its all about Elsa and Anna. Princesses of Arendelle. Elsa accidentally freezes Anna whilst playing as children, so her parents tell her to hide her gift. Her gift being that she can produce snow and ice.

As they grow up, Elsa hides herself away. Anna sings to her 'do you want to build a snowman' but Elsa won't come out. Their parents die on as a storm hits their boat. Elsa, years later, is to be crowned queen. At her coronation though, everyone learns of her abilities. She flees, singing the now infamous 'let it go'.

Anna goes after her, having fallen in love with a prince she just met. He takes over in her absence. Anna meets Kristoff and his reindeer Sven. They then encounter Olaf - the snowman Elsa bought to life.

Anna finds Elsa, but in her panic, Elsa freezes Anna's heart. Kristoff takes Anna to the trolls, who bought him up. They know all about true love. Kristoff takes her back to Arendelle, narrowly escaping the snow monster. Kristoff leaves her with her true love, as an act of true love can save Anna.

Unfortunately, Hans is a conman and he leaves Anna to die. Olaf rescues her, and Kristoff comes racing back to save her. Elsa has been captured and trapped in the castle. Hans orders her to be killed. Elsa though, escapes. Hans finds Elsa and tells her that Anna is dead. In her grief, Elsa causes the storm to stop.

Anna is told by Olaf that Kristoff is in love with her. They try to reach each other. Anna's hair has turned totally white as her heart freezes. She almost reaches Kristoff, but sees that Hans is going to kill Elsa and she jumps in front of his sword. Anna freezes. Elsa hugs her, and slowly Anna thaws - her act of true love has thawed her frozen heart.

Anna and Kristoff share their first kiss, Elsa learns love is the key to her powers. Olaf is given his own weather cloud to protect him and stop him melting, and Hans is taken for his punishment. Plus the elders are sacked. Happily every after!!

This is, quite possibly, one of the best films ever, and the best original songs to a film ever. At some point I hope that I stop singing them to my long suffering family as I am no singer!! Fabulous. Just fabulous.

In 2014 I made a fabulous Longboat

It started with a Converse shoe box and a school project task. I decided to make a Viking Longboat. In hindsight, I would never have started it!! However, it ended well.

The Viking Longboat project:

Step 13 - The launch
Step 12 - Raise the mast
Step 11 - Time for the Oars
Step 10 - boats are wooden
Step 9 - dragons have spikes
Step 8 - losing the edge
Step 7 - Give it Some Body
Step 6 - A tall tail
Step 5 - Put your head on straight
Step 4 - Heads and tails
Step 3 - The Body
Step 2 - A dragon's tail
Step 1 - Its all in the head
Longboat in the making The Messy stuff

The longboat, I am pleased to say, is still on display at G's school. Only the best projects get to stay!! Gold star to me. Thank you :)

My Music - 2014

I discovered my love of music in 2014. I spent a week with 19 artists. I chose 32 singles of the week. I went to see Robbie Williams and Rod Stewart in concert. You can check it all out here at My Music page.

However, 2015 is going to be even bigger and even better. Already, I have tickets for Take That and Taylor Swift. I plan to add more to that.

But I want more music, more singles, and more than anything, I want to get involved more in new music. So that's the plan for 2015, but for now, I'm taking a nice look back on 2014.

New Year, New Page

Its nearly new year. So, to record not only my resolutions, but also my progress on said resolutions, plus my plans and events for next year, I have set up a new page - 2015. (there's nothing on it yet of course!).

What it will contain is my list of resolutions. These will be posted over the coming days. However, I do not want to do what I do every year. As in make the resolution, break the resolution, forget all about the resolution. Oh no no no. Not this year!!

This year - I will make them and be answerable to them - as they will be there for all to see. Here's hoping it works!!

Busy 2015 coming

2015 is going to be a huge year for us. This is the schedule so far:

  • Jan 5th back to work and diet begins
  • Feb - weekend trip to London
  • March - my last 30 something birthday
  • March - A week in Marrakesh, Morocco - all inclusive
  • April - a 60th Birthday
  • May - G turns 10
  • May - tickets to Take That - VIP access
  • June - tickets to Taylor Swift
  • July - a week in Crete, all inclusive
  • October - my other half is 50!!
Lots to look forward to already.

New Wellies for Christmas - must have known we were getting snow!!

I saw these Hunter wellies in the shops whilst shopping with my other half. He paled at the thought of how much they cost and pronounced £95 for a pair of wellies obscene. I therefore had slim prospect of getting these in my stocking. I took a picture of them to remind myself. I wasn't too fussed as I wasn't expecting snow or anything....

So imagine my surprise when Christmas morning, I opened a suspiciously large box containing my lovely red wellies!! Hoorah!!

Boy oh boy did this turn out to be good timing. Where would I have been without them this past 3 days. Fabulous!! They have been well christened with the white stuff. Best present ever!!

Did you have a good Christmas?

So its all over then now. Christmas Eve gone in a flash. All the excitement, the anticipation. Onwards we charged to Christmas Day.

Presents ppened, dinner consumed. Bloated and over indulged. Next up Boxing Day - the Christmas ads cease, to be replaced by sales ads.

Now its the day after the day after Boxing Day. Just a few more days of 2014 to go before New Year.

Did you have a good one?

My Favourite Christmas Song & Christmas Film

My favourite Christmas film ever is Scrooge. I don't think you can beat it. The only difference is which version you prefer.

My favourite Christmas song is Fairy Tale of New York - The Pogues and Kirsty Macoll, I just never tire of it, unlike some others I could mention!

Twas the night before Christmas...

and all through the house, not a creature was stirring. Pah - who am I kidding? We are certainly stirring!!

We are watching Toy Story 3, scoffing kettle crisps. Everything is done. Presents all wrapped, shopping done, cards sent, house sparkling.

The most relaxing Christmas Eve ever. Fabulous.

Its Christmas Eve Babe

In the almost words of the Pogues, its Christmas Eve babe. I'm not in the drunk tank. I'm at home, but its still Christmas Eve!!

If you count tonight, its 2 nights sleep left. Although technically, its only 1 as its already Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve I say. Its Christmas Eve, its Christmas Eve, its CHRISTMAS EVE!!!

Yes, I'm a child still. Inside. Why the hell not? Did I mention it was Christmas Eve? We all get to be kids again, whoever we are, and however old we are. Just go sparkle please. You only live once.

RIP Joe Cocker

I just heard today that the fabulous Joe Cocker has passed away.

I first became aware of him when his cover of the Beatles song ' With a Little Help from My Friends' was the theme tune to my then favorite TV program - the Wonder Years.

He had this awesome gravelly, powerful voice. Total one off and a big loss. Wishes and thoughts with his family - such a difficult time for them.

My Week with Kylie - begins after Boxing Day :)

Given that its almost Christmas, I'm postponing for a few days. I shall begin my week with Kylie after Boxing Day.

Tuesday, 23 December 2014

Everything is wrapped. Ready for my dinner now.

This evening was a grueller. Finished work at 5pm, then battled my way through the traffic to pick up a reserve and collect gift.

From there, it was onto Tesco for a few "bits". An hour and a half later, £200 + spent, I emerged - frazzled and annoyed. So many people, so many empty shelves where stuff should be. Stuff that I needed. Stuff that was on my list.

It was like armageddon not Christmas was looming. I mean c'mon - the shops are open again in 2 days!! Some even on Boxing Day!!

I made it home for about 7.30pm. Then it was stripping the bedding and sticking in the wash. The other half had done a sterling job of the cleaning, all bar the hoovering.

So it was onto the wrapping. First up though, a bit of furniture removal. G has had a lovely silver dressing table with mirror, so we set it up in her room. However, the drawer set she had already, is the matching silver one. So I wanted to find a place for it. We ended up moving the bed, the drawers - rearranging the whole room basically!!

Then it was the wrapping. Finally got done about 10.30pm. Now having a much needed glass of vino. I deserve it, as for once, Christmas Eve is to be enjoyed. Absolutely nothing left to do. Perfect :)

Watching Dirty Dancing :)

I always forget just how much I love this film. Dirty Dancing. Patrick Swayze is at his very best in this.

Amazingly, the clothes are back in fashion again. Vintage - gone full circle. You could walk out dressed like that and not look out of place.

The chemistry between them is amazing. It makes me want to dance. It also makes me want to be slim and toned.

Am feeling inspired and also just plain loving this film.

Last pressie ordered - job done

One or two stocking fillers to pick up tomorrow. Last online reserve placed. By this time tomorrow, I shall be ready to rock and roll - all set and raring to go!!

Are you ready for the man in red?

My Week with - a look back

Last year, probably about now, I had an idea. That idea was to choice one artist, pick seven songs, and review one per day. In other words, spend a week with each artist.

Its been really good fun, and has rekindled my love and appreciation of music. I shall post each of them as I take a look back over them.

Then, I shall choose my next artist to spend a week with.
